  1. There’s terrible sheltering goaltender criticism. Not since Hasek has great goaltending been consistent. Because of the amount of talent in the shootists, goalies now have “but I’m in position” as an excuse for lackluster and fearful tendering. It’s a plague that Dominic could cure.

  2. Devan Dubnyk thinks so, but I'm skeptical. At any rate, people who understand the game better than me constantly point out the shortcomings of Edmonton's D-men, so even if Skinner/Campbell stand on their heads, they could still get beat by an "inferior" team.

  3. I feel like Oilers and Leafs have just gambled with goalies this and previous seasons. Both GMs just hoping average at best (Murray, Campbell, Koskinen, Smith) and complete wild card choices (Skinner, Samsonov) become gold when playoffs start.

  4. People hate me for saying this but if the Oilers dont win the cup this year I wont be mad. A literal whole icing of players are rookies man. The leaf fan base is rock hard over one guy that MAY be as good as Mcleod. This team is literally developing into a BEAST.

It may not be this year or even the next, but this team if it stays together will be modern style dynasty.

  5. Why are ALL the Oilers fans commenting about the Leafs? You will never see a Leaf fan bring up any Oiler during their podcasts. Reason: Learfs fans don't care about the Oilers at all. Are Oilers fans always that obsessed with the Leafs? Serious question, its weird man. I would much rather discuss the Oilers without mentioning the Leafs and sounding upset that they exist. Move on and talk about the team you pretend to like, stop crying Leafs this, Leafs that. its pathetic. I hate to admit it, but its obvious Toronto really is the center of the hockey universe, like it or not. The folks in this comment section prove it over and over again.

  6. there's some teams that can just win without elite level goaltending but not the stanley cup except last year maybe, Goaltending will be their downfall

  7. Brain farters extraordinaire: Bouchard, Desharnais, Broberg, Nurse, Ceci, Kulak… I 100% agree with Louie about that. If this D group can get it together, we won't need to rely so heavily on Skinner.

  8. It's the same question everyone had last year, and goaltending was not at fault for the Oilers loss in the WCF.

  9. Skinny rarely gives up a bad goal, he gets sold out by the defense consistently, but Campbell gives up at least 3 bad goals every game he plays, he also gets sold out by the defense, but that is the difference, the D the Oilers have, and Skinny together can get it done with all the offense the Oilers have.

  10. Does this team have enough to beat LA and Vegas or even Seattle? I’ll give Seattle their due they’ve earned mentioning.

  11. The question is less about goaltending and more about the Oilers D.

They are godawful and unreal soft.

  12. Dude took like a minute to finish asking is the goaltending good enough while also asking the question about 20 times.

  13. Skinner has the potential…….. He is an amazing goalie! Campbell 🤷 he's inconsistently great

  14. I don't trust either of our goalies. Campbell's record with the Oilers speaks for itself but 3 goals in the past 2 games I saw Skinner not even move his body on a pass across. He just accepted it was a good pass and hoped the guy missed. He gets beat clean too many times and relies too much on positioning. Sometimes you just gotta unglue the arms from the torso and try making a save. Maybe it's just me being an oldschool goalie but I can't stand today's goalies thinking their size and positioning is good enough. Skinner is a decent backup at best. Maybe a starter when his partner is weak

  15. Correlation does not equal causation fellas….so the connection between Goaltending and the Win vs Loss % as presented here and on other traditional online venues is not a valid observation if we are discussing what % of the Teams Currency a Goalie represents in any given games eventual dynamic outcome . Louie, the System and how it is managed and then how that management is interpreted and actioned by the Players as Individuals and as a Group are all ingredients found in the Winning Formula. Sooo…. how Woody operates the Oilers System on any given night directly influences how the Oilers Defense will approach opponents in every zone especially attacking the blueline which in turn will directly impact the required TRANSITION SPEEDS and TIMES for the Oilers Goaltenders and this is a significant factor in determining how their d-zone management will be actioned. Devan Dubnyk/Talbot were the victims of poor System management which allowed opponents to hit the blueline untouched and rip shots on net from 3-6 feet over the blueline right up Scooters Alley from dead middle of the zone where bar-down beats any goalie flat out. Louie, the NewAge Hockey System teaches that there is a big EXTREME difference between making contact during a PLAYACTION and executing an NHL level Bodycheck……and both of those tactics carry substantial values and impacts when managed properly. When we discuss "checking" and how it impacts the outcome of games we must deal with the different layers of that topic accurately.
