New York Rangers Rough Stuff Versus Pittsburgh Penguins | TNT Feed | NYR vs PIT | Mar 12th, 2023

After beating the Sabres the night before, the Rangers started off a bit slow in Pittsburgh the next afternoon. Rangers began to up their physical game which was highlighted by Jacob Trouba’s open ice hit against Alex Nylander. As usual, the soft Penguins chased Trouba down and Malkin cross checked Troubs to put his team down a man, because apparently hitting a Penguins player is illegal? Later on, Pittsburgh native Vincent Trocheck lays out Evgeni Malkin at center ice, to which Malkin retaliated with a hit of his own in his offensive zone. Trocheck would hit Malkin a bit late and rush down the ice on a 3-2, to which Kreider was open for the pass to score the game tying goal, much to the dismay of the Pittsburgh crowd. Malkin tried to milk a penalty call by laying down on the ice but to no avail. Although the Rangers lost in OT, they garnered a point and their overall play improved after the altercations.

I was at this game. Pens fans complain like you wouldn’t believe.

Featured in this video is the Jacob Trouba hit on Nylander and the Trocheck/Malkin altercations as well as the Kreider goal. This is the TNT national feed featuringg Kenny Albert, Eddie Olczyk and Keith Jones.

  1. Terrible whinny announcers. Shut up already. Keith Jones and this other guy. Let them play. They Dont deserve to call a game w Kenny Albert.

  2. Rangers are warming up for the playoffs. Pittsburgh is getting warmed up to whine in the playoffs.

  3. Rangers fan here. That Trouba hit was clean as a whistle, textbook. Hard doesn't mean dirty. The Trocheck hit from behind on Malkin, though, not so clean imo. That one felt more like a cheap shot, guessing he felt Malkin's hit from behind wasn't clean as well. Definitely a playoff hockey vibe between these two squads
