Today I wanted to talk about the New York Rangers and how the ultimate gift they received in the 1st overall pick at this year’s 2020 NHL Entry Draft. With this pick, they’ll most likely select Rimouski Océanic left-winger Alexis Lafreniere, a potentially franchise-defining talent for the Rangers, and a player who could step into the lineup as soon as next year. Along with the stacked group of forwards they already have with guys like Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, Ryan Strome, Pavel Buchnevich and others, Lafreniere could really add a new dynamic to that forward core.
Not to mention, they still have a Kaapo Kakko whom they drafted 2nd overall at the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and who also projects to being a first-line, elite talent.
This right here is the future of the franchise, with potential as sky high as the moon.
We’ve seen other first overall / high pick duos in the past, with the most notable ones being Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews for the Chicaco Blackhawks.
Can Lafreniere and Kakko be next in line?
The current NHL rankings for the 2020 NHL Draft go as follows:
1st) New York Rangers
2nd) Los Angeles Kings
3rd) Ottawa Senators (from San Jose Sharks)
4th) Detroit Red Wings
5th) Ottawa Senators

15th) Toronto Maple Leafs (Pittsburgh Penguins)
16th) Montreal Canadiens
17th) Chicago Blackhawks
18th) New Jersey Devils (from Arizona Coyotes)
19th) Calgary Flames
The draft is stacked with guys like Alexis Lafrenière at the top, with Quinton Byfield, Tim Stützle, Lucas Raymond, Alexander Holtz, Jamie Drysdale, Marco Rossi, Cole Perfetti, Jake Sanderson, and Yaroslav Askarov rounding out the top 10. I still hate New York Rangers
LETS GO RANGERS
I demand at least one cup
I'm just happy Laffy is not in the Wings division.
That was a quick rebuild by the rangers. 😒
We all ready forgot about Nolan Patrick who cares. There prospects get the views
BTW rangers want to trade the 1st and more for eichel.
SHEST-IR-KIN
I think we will win cups because of this I can’t wait
As a Ranger fan I AM SO HYPED FOR THE FUTURE! WE ARE COMING NHL! KEEP DOUBTING US!
Regarding minesotta they built their own graveyard 7-8 years ago. Fortunately, they're about to get out of it pretty soon.
Seems like alot of your opinions of who deserves what and who doesn't are barely even scratching the surface to something that can literally go back 15 to 20 years ago. Most of the teams are in the positions they are in right now because of the decisions made by past or present GMs. You make it seem like everything just falls on their lap.
The rangers are where they are because about 4-5 years ago they decided to go ahead and tackle their rebuild head on, even sending out a communiqué to their fanbase to let them know the next few years were going to be bad. They ripped out anything valuable in that lineup in order to gains assets and very meticulously made trades in order to acquire the best chances drafting 1st as much as they could. The outcome just swayed into the one of the best ones they could of possibly wished for and seriously we won't even know till they go live. Not only that but NY also has the market to support having a star studded lineup and drive ticket sales and what not. If you think their scouting team they didn't see lafreniere coming 5-6 years ago and or what they've been doing so far hasn't been planned or mapped out somehow, then you're just like every other arm chair coach out there
You really need to lay off the hate on some of these teams or at least don't be as biased as you sound if your end goal is too educate your audience.
Both busts
Kaapo Kakko and Alexis Lafreniere could end up being the best Finnish-Canadian winger duo since Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya.
Again, don't forget the rumored trade that's on the board. Where Eichel gets traded to the Rangers for the number 1 pick. I already said, what I think about Laffy, and I hope I'm wrong about him, and I truly hope if the Rangers do indeed keep the pick and draft him, that it works out for him in New York.
You failed to mention 20 year old Vitali Kravtsov RW who could very well be right up there with Kakko and Lafraniere.
I don't know why people are freaking out about Kakko. He would be on the same trajectory of Barkov when he came in the league.
To be honest, I hope it's a slow incline in points so the kid can't command 11M like some kids in this league…
Penguins had the 2nd overall in 2006 after Crosby. They drafted Staal when they could have had Toews😳
The league is scared.
not to mention Jaques Martin
The Rangers have done it the right way. They have made great trades and done a fantastic job drafting. At the same time the big club has been playing hard and never tanking. When you do that the hockey gods smile down at you.
Every time I watch this guys videos I want to play NHL 20 right away
Draft is rigged. NHL doing whatever it can to make the Rangers relevant. NBA is soaring, NFL on top of the mountain, MLB plays 162 games and has crazy revenue from it and the NHL is a dying sport that needs NY more then ever right now
Rangers haven't had the first overall pick since 1965. Have won one Cup in 80 years. And yet so many in the hockey social media world are having a cow because we got the first pick and seem to be loaded for bear going forward. Yes, the last decade was the best 10 year stretch in franchise history playoff success-wise but still no parade. No disrespect to Edmonton but all of those first picks, save for McDavid, haven't amounted to much. Get over it people if New York City has a strong contender with a realistic shot at a championship it is good for the game and the league as a whole. GO BLUE!!!
I recieve a notice two days late?
Kakko bust
LGR
i saw a lot of improvement from kaako in the playoffs much more aggressive and not scared of the bigger players. we should hold on to our 22nd pick to get a solid D man as well. our defense needs work
As a rangers fan we're not trading the pick and we're taking Laff
Bro the rangers deserved that number 1 pick that is the first time ever picking number. 1
canucks will be a team to be recond with next year.
Kaapo Kakko had 0 points in the 2019-2020 playoffs
Anyone who has a channel that says NY will trade the #1 pick is dumb AF
Rangers fans are like Cowboys fans. Even when their team sucks they find reasons to brag.
Is he talking about the minus 30 krappo kracko?
The only upgrade last yr came from off season signing!
Forget O we need D to win I would put the C on the Lindgren sweater!
8 days away from getting our future LGR baby lafoniere is coming to New York baby
My choises for the near future Cup wining teams are Rangers, Hurricanes And Canadiens. Rangers, no need to explain. Carolina, Aho, Teravainen and Svechnikov. Canadiens has two young first class centers Suzuki and KK. There´s never been so many talented young players in NHL as there are now. Just have to wait for a couple of years till Tampa era is over. Well.. Dallas has couple of young tallents. Most are over 30, but you´ll never know.
Imagine a line of kako LaFreniere and Philip Chytil…. amazing possibilities by this line
You have got to mention Edmonton. They are an example of how you can screw up having 4 number 1's and totally neglect your D and goalie.
God dude, your voice is brutal. I just can't listen to it.
Do you know how many years they got screwed with moving down in the lottery. I’m not even a rangers fan but they deserved this. It’s been so long since they’ve had a relevant talent
You sound like that kid Isaac from Children of the Corn.
Poor kid playing for a classless organization like the New York Rangers.
NYR better get to the Final by 2023 or it's a massive failure
Stanley Cup Final, singular.
Stop it u have me gassed tf up rn😂
