  1. You don't trade a 22 year old d-man who is close to our already a top 4 guy for a first rounder to try and 'win now'. thats just daft. Gustafson isnt helping this team win a cup.

  2. Gustafson who they traded for and ā€œleads the leafs d in pointsā€was replaced by sandin in WAS, so Iā€™m not surprised he has gotten points. If you Can pass a puck to ovi on the pp your guaranteed points. Carlson has been and is out for most of the season, hence Gustafsons playing time and point total, as soon as he gets back heā€™ll take over.

  3. I might get slaughtered for this… but if Sandin can soak minutes and proved his worth when Rielly was injured should the Dubas decision (ya, he didn't have to make a decision at all) have been to move a 29 year old Rielly to create that space in the lineup for the next guy to actually succeed? You would get more back for him and it saves you significant $ to upgrade the team elsewhere. Maybe it's "win now and experience blah blah" but the two players head to head aren't terribly far off and you could have chosen to deal Rielly at the draft after you made a run at it. Is Rielly really your guy until he's 36? I think there was an opportunity to get him the minutes and upgrade the team in other places by letting a valuable young asset shine rather than sticking him in the press box. I imagine they'll be looking for a "Sandin" in a few seasons.

  4. Not a mistake trading Sandin. He's physically and mentally soft, lawsy D player, and a whiner. Who cares what he does with the Caps? Not in playoffs, no pressure, half their D core is gone or injured. Would have been better if they had bundled him in a package for Chychryn, but Dubas was tight for cap space, so went for McCabe instead at 50% retained. Would be interesting to see what Dubas and Keefe would say as to why Sandin was traded. 1st round pick for him to replace the one they traded away I suppose, and he wanted out of Toronto anyway. Who needs that kind of toxin hanging around? The guy has a very inflated opinion of himself. Guess everyone forgot about his contract holdout.

  5. Sandin is better than reilly defensively and can actually shoot the puckā€¦he proved that when reilly was injured and the leafs were actually elite defensively with sandin and liljegren as the top pairā€¦he just needed playing time to get comfyā€¦but keefe always goes back to playing his favourites despite being liabilitiesā€¦

  6. Rasmus Sandin is MORE valuable then the first round pick. He is also a better player then Gustafson. That was not a good trade no matter how you spin it.

  7. Toronto should have traded Morgan as he has no shot and is just offensive Dman but doesnā€™t play any defense. They could have saved the cap space and still upgraded the team and kept Sandin it will haunt them now. Huge Dubas L. He doesnā€™t know talent

  8. We kept Liljegren. Heā€™s better. There are also 4 other D-men who are better as well and have some term still. Also some Niemela guy who should be good too. Sometimes u have to lose some home grown talent. Better return than Brown and Hyman

  9. Also 1st round picks, even late ones, can often be used to swap at draft. Why get ripped off at deadline for a stretch when that pick can be used in a trade or trade up for another important offseason? Team did lots to add. Broken fingers will heal. ROR can still skate and be in shape. Ride what we got and keep that 1st for off-season

  10. Sandin played way better than Rielly
this is one i canā€™t take, the guy control Power Play better than Rielly.

  11. No question that Toronto is deeper than Washington. They're teams trending in different directions. That said, Sandin did top 30 minutes last night against NJ who is clearly a playoff team. Washington was still missing 3 of their top 4 D and Washington took it all the way to shootout thanks to the amazing play from Kuemper. It's nice to see a young player like Sandin get the big minutes he's been asking for. 30+ minutes in the NHL is a lot for anyone let alone a guy who was a healthy scratch. And he's looked very good. Nobody is suggesting he's going to win the Norris but he's a great pickup for Washington

  12. Notice how well he played when there was a bunch of injuries. Then when his minutes got cut back, as guys returned, his play dropped. He needs the ice time. Keefes boy Hall, eats up more than Sandin would get, making no sense

  13. Dubas is a die hard sens fan he not there to help the leafs he in there to break them apart from the inside it a inside job from the sens why do u think he took that shitty murray contract lol.

  14. worst thing I've seen the Leafs do in a long time… forget about the 5 points in 2 games, this kid was going to be a star… for the first time in 30 years, I was very pleased about the young core of D-Men Toronto had… if Toronto loses in the 1st round again (for the 6th straight year), I hope they fire the GM… he did a good thing with the O'Reilly trade but the trades with Chicago, and now this, was completely unnecessary and hurts the team long-term… I'm not pleased with Jake McCabe, Luke Schenn or Gustavsson… this trade should haunt the franchise for years to come/

  15. Missing in this convo is Sandin coughs up the puck under playoff like pressure & checking. He will probably get better, but now is not the time to hope. We are all in.

  16. Heres the thing about that pick…..if, Arizona gets the first pick in the draft…can you not offer Matthew's and that pick for Arizona pick and get Bedard?…just a thought.

  17. Sandin was traded for pre-emptive cap situations. They weren't going to be able to afford him and Liljegren both in 2024. McCabe, and his $2M cap hit can replace one of them in the short term however.

  18. Sandin now has 8 points in 4 games since joining the caps. 5 more points then all 7 of the Leafs d-core combined in the last 4 games

  19. Kinda giving me the trading the picks that became Niedermayer and Hamilton vibes.

  20. I don't know why everybody is so surprised. If you're getting top pairing and PP minutes with OVIE Backstrom and kuznetsov of course you're going to rack up points. Anybody would. He is still a defensive liability. With the Leafs he would make two or three glaring mistakes every game. Unless he cleans up his defensive game I'm not worried about the trade it all

  21. Gustavson sucks period. So we gave away a kid with talent for a plug like gustavson????do any of you think gustovson is in their top 6???holl sucks and Iā€™d rather see holl on ice instead of gustovson

  22. A bit early to jump on the band wagon. Did you guys not notice that Sandin was on the ice for 8 consecutive goals against and 11 of the last 14 goals against? He was the guy that was usually out of position and just got beat or out muscled. He has some offensive skill but it's been ugly in the d-zone.
