1998 January 28 – Williams FW20 launch + 1st test by Jacques Villeneuve @ Silverstone



Launch of the Williams FW20 of the Williams Grand Prix Engineering F1 team in the paddock of the Silverstone circuit on Wednesday January 28, 1998.
Villeneuve drove 16 laps on the Silverstone circuit mainly to show the new car. He clocked a best time of 1m 31.15s.

  1. Back than F1 teams were more like families. Just look at Montoya assisting Villenueve to get out of the car.
    They were so much more human like. Today's F1 is so plasticy and untrue…
    I just loved Jacques Villeneuve with his intelligence, and true heart for racing.
    People say he only had one year when he performed well. Honestly he had podium finishes in F1 with 4 type of cars. Even with the failing Mecachrome Williams, and with 2001 BAR he had podium finishes. Apart from that he raced crappy cars, and suffered, just like everyone in slow cars in F1. He is bright guy, my hero forever!

  2. Yes I agree. Jacque Villeneuve hugely under rated. I was too young for his father, but I like what I see of Jacques more. Very intelligent, single minded and entertaining. I think the BAR years were all about money, however good luck to him for securing his future. I'm not a big believer in how many championships etc. You only have to win it once, and Jacques had the talent to do this.
