Something worth keeping in mind as well: no one else joined him in sitting it out. The rest of that organization got it right. Massive props to the rest of the guys for continuing to be allies.
Now I’m gonna puke a lil’ for having good things to say about the Sharks.
Edit: for those not aware, Reimer decided to sit out pride night because bigotry reasons. The rest of their team went ahead with wearing the pride night jerseys, unlike teams that just canceled the whole event.
If we’re gonna call out the people who suck, we should also give daps to those who remain allies.

Why’s that? Regardless, I root against them anyhow.

As an ex-Hawks fan that is looking for a new team to root for, San Jose is high on my list. It is great to see/hear that this is the stance of one player and not that of the team. Hockey IS for everyone, except racists, homophobes and those that cover up sexual abuse. That’s shot we need to get out of the game.

I’ll probably get downvoted to oblivion for this…but…
Reimer exercised his right to espouse his religious beliefs. Whether you agree with them or not, you should extend to him the same tolerance you do to people who believe opposite of him.
After all, isn’t that the message of Pride Night in the first place?
He issued a statement explaining he wouldn’t wear the warm up jersey because what it represented conflicted with his religious beliefs. You don’t have to like it or agree with it (or him), but by calling him names (like immoral or bigot), you’re occupying the same intolerant space that anti-LGBTQIA+ people have been occupying for years, only it’s intolerance of his religion rather than his sexual preference.
I’ll continue to boo him because of the jersey he’s wearing, not because of the jersey he didn’t wear.
And for the record, I don’t agree with his position or him sitting out during warm ups…I just believe he has the right to do so.

I remember thinking we should trade for him last summer, dodged that bullet

People who think like this are immoral scumbags I don’t want to associate with anyway.

The situation is more complicated than people are willing to admit.
It’s not entirely about just accepting lgbt it’s also about allowing yourself to be a billboard/advertisement for it. So it’s not quite as simple as saying he just doesn’t like gay people. There is more nuance to this situation than “do you like gay people?”
Now with that said he specifically sites his religion and the fact that he lives his life off the Bible but that’s obviously not true because no one actually follows the bullshit in the Bible… especially the Bible that has the anti gay stuff also has the kill your kids if they talk back to you stuff. So his excuse is a whole lot of bullshit and he likely does have bigoted beliefs in there if he’s going to lean with that excuse.
He’s a piece of shit but I really think people are undermining what the issue is… it’s not about supporting people or whether or not they should be included… it’s whether or not players should be forced to advertise and participate in league events against their will. Plus do gay people actually want bigots wearing rainbows just for the sake of doing it?(probably yea but that’s more of a spite thing than anything, it doesn’t actually serve a purpose other than making insecure idiots uncomfortable because who the fuck really has an issue wearing a damn rainbow)
Imagine if for instance the league were doing Ukraine nights and forced Russians to wear Ukrainian flags… now this is a more extreme case where the Russians would have an even more legitimate reason to not wear those jersey out of fear of repercussions but the thought experiment is the same.
TLDR: he’s an idiot… most likely a bigoted idiot. But there is a moral discussion to be had about forcing people to take part in these events.
