Spotlight on Canadiens likely to depart Montreal | HI/O Bonus

In this bonus episode, our panelists — former Canadiens defenceman and assistant coach Rick Green, Gazette columnist Stu Cowan and Canadiens podcast host Andrew Berkshire — along with host Moe Khan discuss players who probably won’t be back with the team next season because they might generate interest from other clubs, they have expiring contracts and won’t be re-signed or they don’t fit into general manager Kent Hughes’ rebuilding plan.

  1. We wanted cap space ? Well. Here it is. Drouin, Byron, Armia, Webber , Price, Toffoli, etc are all off or coming off the books.
Could we now for once in my lifetime sign a top tier free agent ?

  2. Drouin made a truck load of money of a 20 game stretch with Domi, and has been less than average since. Byron, I get it, I was really happy with his output while playing and was totally worth being signed. Dvorak, Wideman, Monahan, and Hoffman need to go, not because I don't like them, they need room for the upcoming wave of talent. The kids need to grow together.

  3. If Montreal could get a bag of pucks and two broken sticks for Drouin, they should do it. Sad, but at this advanced age, Drouin is still a spoiled kid. Mommies boy.

  4. I would like to see Mike Hoffman added to the Rick Green mini-bus express to the airport. His stats aren't that good, passing well below average, and the way he floats and avoids contact, is not what a playoff franchise builds on.

  5. A myth I hear constantly in the media is that Drouin has good playoff numbers. The dude was all but invisible in the '20 playoff bubble through the first 8 games with ONE goal. He then had a pair of two assist games in the final two games. Anyone who actually watched him will remember he was not good nor effective for 80% of those playoffs. His TB playoff numbers don't reflect how he played as well. Ask anyone who saw his TB playoffs and they'll say the same.

  6. could they trade Price to a team with salary cap issues. The players mentioned in this episode were typical Bergevin moves for the last ten years.

  7. Could you possibly clean up the audio? There's a lot of interference that is distracting.

  8. Even if they move Edmundson and Wideman, who ends up being the odd man out on D.

    You have:

Matheson, Savard, Guhle, Xhekaj, Kovcevic, Barron, Harris.

Ideally you want all of them to play, but someone would have to be the odd man out. As well as all of the rookie D has played, I don't know if I could make that decision.

And that's if guys like Stuble, Trudeau, Fairbrother don't make a play for a roster spot on the Habs. Nevermind guys like Hutson and Mailloux (although I think those guys are a year or 2 away)

Good problem to have I guess.
