Scotiabank arena is the worst. And it’s not just the leafs the away team loses edges like they’re going out of style.
hopelessromantic7
Leafs are best team ever
Master_Shake23
Vegas is on there as they have very low humidity, which makes it easier to cool down an arena, as air conditioning works by removing moisture.
drewgebs
This is probably old the Mullet is now rumored to be the best ice in the NHL
Clark828
Then you have PNC where the ice has torn two ACLs this season.
FloweringSkull67
Xcel crew: do we need a refrigeration unit for the ice? No, let’s just freeze the shit out of the arena
Hutch25
Why is it surprising? It’s one of the newest arenas in the league
Beginning_Tea5009
Canada, Canada, Canada, almost Canada, desert.
HuppariC
Top 5 worst ice?
marinerpunk
So Canadian teams haven’t succumbed to naming their stadiums after corporations yet?
CarStar12
Vegas has a more controlled environment (humidity), a largely single use facility (not shared with an NBA team at least) and it’s a young facility that had money for quality. Not a shock to me honestly.
Jagr6810
In our beer league we got to play a game at Rogers place and the ice was worse then the recreation centers.
The must make it better for the NHL’ers for when they play there.
RtuDtu
One thing in common with all these arenas, they don’t share their arena with a basketball team. I would bet the worse arenas for ice quality are teams that share with a basketball team
Turc-ington
At least we’re good at something 🥲
intercontinentalbelt
You know they play inside a newly built arena, not out doors on the strip right?
IDriveAZamboni
I believe this is last year’s ranking; it’ll be interesting to see what happens this year with mullet.
As for the ranking, they all make sense (Canada, almost Canada, desert) except for the massive lead the Bell Centre has. I’ve watched their crew during games and imo it was rough to say the least.
-Am an ice guy.
Judge_Rhinohold
All arenas with no NBA team.
justinknechtel
I played hockey in Vegas and the ice was surprisingly good. It’s so dry there and the facilities are really nice.
I’m surprised Colorado isn’t in this list tbh.
Hey_look_new
edmonton always used to have the best ice
on the far spectrum, can we all raise a toast to the old Boston garden
having games cancelled because it got foggy is unreal
having a stanley cup deciding final game cancelled and moved to the other teams rink is unheard of
Oilers win 4 straight games, but had played 5 lol
Tricky_Passenger3931
I’m honestly shocked Rogers place is on here. Rexall had incredible ice, but when I skated on Rogers I was disappointed how soft the ice was. This was several years ago though so maybe they’ve improved it.
beeeerbaron
Vegas knows a thing or 2 about air conditioning
Charmander_Chazz
I would not be surprised if Nashville is one of the worst. I’ve skated there multiple times and it’s so humid it’s like playing in an armpit
2Hanks
Now do the bottom 5! lol
InternDarin
Isn’t their arena brand new?
Barilko-Landing
Have they voted on the worst yet?
thatswhatshesaid729
Why does the ice suffer if it’s shared with nba team??
Metalsheepapocalypse
Toronto over here with some of the most expensive tickets in the entire league and they’re still sharing a venue with a basketball team.
Probably be that way until they win a cup….so forever 😅😭

A couple of things re: VGKs rink. It’s the second newest rink in the league. It doesn’t share the arena with other sports. And, the climate is super dry so things freeze easier and stay frozen.
RipenedFish48
Vegas has very low humidity and no NBA team to share with. Both tend to help with maintaining ice quality. I have heard the players also like the ice surface in Mullet Arena for similar reasons.
okokokoyeahright
Reading through the thread, I wonder as to how Seattle is perceived. The humidity must be equivalent to Vancouver as is the elevation, both which seem to affect ice quality. The difference between the two could be due in part at least to the more modern design and equipment in Seattle.
In other shorter and clearer words:
Does Seattle have better ice than Vancouver?
kingsears29
Is there a list with every other NHL team?
YugeFrigginGoy
Why? They have $$$

Im going to guess about 20 years ago teams started heating the arenas for the comfort of fans. This has led to slower ice IMO. San Jose has a great arena, but they heat it up for the fans who are not used to the cold at all. Maybe they think fans wont want to go if its under 68 degrees inteh arena., Personally i don’t mind 55 or 60 degrees, you just have to dress for it. But everyone in California wants to wear a tshirt and flip flops to every event in the area.

This is probably the only first position that the habs are proud of
