  1. Its can also help out teams with trades. For Example a team that is just outside of the playoffs now will not do these lottery protected picks then punt the first round pick to the next year. This delays a bad team from getting better. So lets say Carolina is a bubble team next year, and Risto from Buffalo is who they want to trade for. Carolina does not need to lottery protect a first round pick if they are willing to give up a first round pick for Risto. Lets say the pick is #14 well this pick is not a lottery pick so it helps Buffalo get better faster vs well its lottery protected then Carolina punts the pick to the 2023 draft. I think Any changes that will help crappy teams get better faster the better it is for the league. The League should also step in a little more for teams like Buffalo and tell the ownership group either hire experienced people to run the organization or we will strip all your first round picks until you do so. This way it stops teams from destroying good young players.

  2. That is a better system than what they have now. Last year was rigged beyond rigged to make it hard for the Red Wings to get the top pick. It was a messup up season no doubt, but did the Wings really deserve to be at #4? No way. Do you want to mention that they got moved down for 3 straight drafts? Yah, nobody wants to talk about either. But it happened.

  3. Just another way to screw over Buffalo again! They screwed us over changing the draft rules for McDavid draft. We got screwed over as usual. Buffalo might as well trade all their picks…Buffalo didn’t try to be bad this year or even Past 4th years. Only for McDavid and year before that did they tank on purpose

  4. How about changing the damn rules about buyouts?? Why should a team be screwed over for 5-15 years if a guy is hurt and can’t play anymore? Like Seabrook, the guy can’t play, why is Hawks still screwed over with his cap hit. Buyouts should be easier and not as high cap penalty

  5. how bout we just dont give playoff teams 1st OA pick?? NHL has always rigged the draft

  6. Here's an idea: don't fix a problem that doesn't exist. Teams that tank lose revenue and fans from tanking. They build a culture of losing. Get rid of the lottery entirely and let tank teams punish themselves.

  7. I don’t know why the lottery need to be change, it is encouraging for teams to tank

  8. Makes me laugh how Rangers let lucky twice but when Oilers won first pick every year everyone was quiet

  9. They should have predicted this happening and should have been smarter making the rules in the first place. Buy hey It just proves the lottery format drawing was all about getting ratings and marketing hype for a single night on TV. New rules start in 2022 so at least one fantastical against the odds team will win the #1 pick for 2021.

  10. controversial but i think its a hard position, because if you are the worst and the furthest you can fall is 3rd (now giving you higher odds for #1) you will get more teams milking it , the 2 in 5 rule doesnt stop teams from milking it. because they might not move up but they can still get #1 or #2

  11. Love all three changes. I would make it move up 8 spots not 10 and I like it that if a last place team wins the lotto it doesn’t count as part of the max of 2 times in 5 years. And only having 2 lotto spots prevents anyone from dropping 3 spots … now a max of 2 spots. Lowering changes by 1/3 of moving up into top 3.

  12. Having team move up max of ten … increases the odds of the worst teams wining first overall and 2nd. InTankathon the 12-16 worst teams have a total of 7.5% at #1 and 13-16 worst team have a 5.6% chance of #2 which now will be 0%.

  13. What will it do for teams that have two first round picks and go up on pick that they got from that team that had a bad year ?
