  1. At least Vrana is doing well in St. Louis. It was an odd move by Detroit trading him for nothing. I wonder why they gave up on him.

  2. There is something to the rumors because why would both Washington and Detroit move on from a young guy who could potentially score 30 goals a season?

  3. Nobody wanted Vrana to succeed more than us Wings fans. From what I heard he was hooked on pills thats why he had to go to rehad missing so much time. He made his bed..it is what it is🤷‍♂

  4. Stevie Y seems to have made a stupidly bad trade. Don't expect to ever hear him talk about why he would give away a player(and pay 1/2 his contract) who can score, when the team is full of guys unable to finish. I know that a lot of Red Wing fans are disgusted with the trade.

  5. suiting up for the first time? pretty sure he played the last game. Also he didnt really say anything that I would classify as "biting back"

  6. Basically Yzerman wanted nothing to do with a player who has issues?
Bobby Ryan was brought here and his issues were openly discussed.
    So what the hell happened?

  7. I saw the thread, and recall hearing talk of that interview on 32 Thoughts, but as with most things insiders talk about, I merely considered it unverified/unverifiable information and didn't think anything of it. Perhaps there's some truth to it.

Regardless of his situation, whether he was drunk during one or more interview, or why he was in the Players Assistance Program, I still hope the best for him, and hope he can get his life and career in order. Otherwise, Seider Salad is 100% correct: The honeymoon will end, the shine will wear off, and the problems will surface once more.

  8. I don’t think Winged Wheel said anything bad about Vrana. As a huge Wings fan, I am highly disappointed the way he was treated. They only brought him up to showcase him for a trade. They scratched him 3 or 4 games, not nice. There may be more to the story, but right now really disappointed in the way he was treated. If and when I hear more to the story, I might change my mind?

  9. This is the first situation I think Yzerman really flubbed. When he was in the lineup he was our best goal scorer. The dynamic offensive threat this team has lacked for years. Then Yzerman gives him away for nothing without actually giving him a chance. Vrana did nothing throughout the whole process except be a professional, say and do all the right things. If the organization didn't want him anymore then fine, but play him, let him do his thing and score, them trade him in the off-season for probably a 2nd, 3rd or a decent prospect. It was not only unfair to Vrana, but bad asset management by Yzerman.

  10. Vrana came from a team looking to get deep in the playoffs again and he didn't like the cards he was dealt on top of personal issues out of hockey. He isn't a franchise player or close to it what kind of attitude is that? how is nobody questioning that attitude? Stevie Y made it clear you have to prove you want to be on the team and that no one was safe. He's obviously building the team around his own draft picks seeing bert go and all. It only makes sense his sour attitude about his situation and thought he could just walk in on the team. That's an L for any team on the upswing.

  11. It's not that the Wings couldn't get production out of Vrana It's that he coudn't stay clean. The Red Wings had enough of his personel problems. He has to own it!

  12. Varna 100% has an issue that is still on going. As a wings fan, I want what’s best for him. But not when it comes at the expense of throwing the organization under the bus because you can’t make grown up decisions.

  13. I wasn't aware of the rumours up till now – we all thought that Steve Y rinsed Washington in that mantha trade getting back what he did but it's looking to me at least, that Washington wanted him gone and Detroit took him to help get the deal done. I agree that when he was on his game he was an exciting player but clearly there's much much more to him than that. Hopefully Detroit keep a dignified silence on the matter because the more Vrana goes on the bigger the hole he digs for himself IMHO.

  14. Another diva…how dare they send him to the AHL…hes so above that. And im a Colorado fan-got no dog in this fight. Im also a recovered drug addict/alcoholic…so I get the addict mindset completely.

  15. I like the comment about the honeymoon period in St. Louis, because Vrana lit it up when he came over from the Caps and looked like the goal scorer the Wings desperately needed. But, 30 some odd games in 3 seasons later… Something had to give. Personally, I would trust the decisions of a guy like Steve Yzerman over what a player has to say about the situation in an interview around his new setting.
