However, the current roster is, in fact, quite soft (by NHL standards). You’re lying to yourself if you don’t recognize this.
Truth is, we do need a power forward or two (or even a “pest” type guy, similar to Marchand). Also, a really tough d-man would be great (i.e., someone opposing forwards just hate going in the corners with).
Side note: Everyone can hate on Brad Marchand all they want, but there’s a reason guys hate playing against him — he’s gritty as hell, and can also rack up points. Boston was even smart enough to add more grit (by picking up Bertuzzi), because they understand the value of having toughness in your lineup come playoff time.
The NHL has changed a lot over the past 20-30 years — and I absolutely love seeing more smaller, super-skilled guys nowadays — but it’s still a big boys’ league.
