@RypientheBeast37 During the 2008-2009 season, Sakic caught his hand in a snowblower and ended up only playing 15 games. With Sakic in the lineup, the team was just about .500. Without him….well, that's how they ended up 15th in the Western Conf and with the 3rd pick in the draft: Matt Duchene. Had Sakic not injured his hand, chances are the Avs would not have gotten that pick and would not have Duchene on the team because they would not have sucked badly enough. Twisted humor, but true.
@kevinja88 Actually, it did. He was slated to come back in January of 2009; the accident happened mid-December and put him out for the rest of the year. I've no doubt that being out for the back injury was a big part of their poor showing (although they were in 9th place at the time of snowblower), but they would certainly have placed higher than last in the West if he had played those last three or four months.
