A quick breakdown of what’s pictured here, for the non card collecting folks:
1) The Driedger autos are in chronological order, starting with the oldest to the most recent. The patch auto is really cheesy and most are hella overpriced because the box they come in is obscenely expensive, but I got that one for much cheaper than they’re usually sold for so I was like fuck it I’ll do it for him 😂
2) I love all of those Gru cards, but my favorites are the future stars one (do you think he thought back then he’d ever be a Vezina finalist?!), the hat one (of course) and the Intimidation Nation one. The last is my favorite type of goalie card in general, but they only make them for starters/the most famous goalies, so Driedger doesn’t have one yet. I also have Shesterkin, Vasilevskiy and Darcy Kuemper cards of that type. Out of all the ones I have though Grubauer looks the most intimidating 😂 Vasy’s got Tanev eyes, Darcy isn’t that intimidating because he’s too damn cute and Igor just has his usual resting worried face 😂 Gru looks like he’s out for blood though omg
3) I like the lore on the backs of the cards. Fun details include Driedger’s goalie goal, various shutouts, statistics, birthdays, etc.
4) All of these were found on ebay for very little, in some cases a card was 99 cents. The most expensive was the Driedger patch auto (around $20 or so). Most of these autos were less than the price of a Starbucks 😂 other players, like Shesterkin, would require me to sell my car lmao.
Now for something a little more personal: you may have noticed that the Driedger canvas card has tape over the top. This is generally frowned upon by Serious Collectors but the reason it’s taped is because in January I was sick and went to the ER and later had surgery. I brought that card with me as a good luck/comfort item. I thought it would give me strength to think about someone who also had an injury and surgery and who keeps on moving forward. So while I love all my cards that one has some special meaning for me.
