[Kevin Papetti] The McCabe – Brodie pair so far: 59.9 xGF% 2.64 xGF/60 1.77 xGA/60 (!) For context, Brodie with Rielly this season: 53.3 xGF% 3.02 xGF/60 2.65 xGA/60 The Leafs are at 2.54 xGA/60 as a team, and CAR leads at 2.19 xGA/60. Really impressive defensive numbers.

McCabe has been better than advertised. Love the guy so far and really liked the pairs last night

McCabe is the Brodie 2.0 we’ve been searching for

Insanely reliable, great at both ends

The fact we got him for $2M x 3 is absolutely mental

Rielly should just be a sheltered 3rd pairing offensive specialist. Sucks that he’s already at this stage with another 7 years to go, but he’s proven he can’t handle the tough minutes without a babysitter

For anyone wondering how this is for Mo’s pairings (xGF%, xGF/60, xGA/60):

    – Lily: 48.94%, 2.49, 2.6
    – Brodie: 53.29%, 3.02, 2.65
    – Holl: 50.56%, 2.8, 2.74
    – Schenn: 48.27%, 2.88, 3.09
    – Gus: 40.52%, 3.44, 5.05

Edit: formatting, bold for best, italics for worst

Edit2: does this suggest that Lily brings out the best defensively with Mo? Surely with time, they can learn how to better active on offence.

Edit3: this IMO would work well if McCabe-Brodie is to remain, as we know that Gio-Holl has been effective together also (54.53% xGF%, 2.78 xGF/60, 2.32 xGA/60).

Leaf fans know better than anyone, Rielly is a 2nd pair offensive defenseman, at his absolute best that 1 season a 1st pair offensive specialist. Which is ok if they actually deployed him that way

For anyone wondering about sample size as I was:

Rielly Brodie TOI together: 308:55 over 41 games.

McCabe Brodie TOI together: 114:16 over 12 games.

  7. The shutdown pair we have been waiting for. Now it’s just a question of how to hide Rielly defensively. Schenn? Can’t be Holl. Lilly with him is off and on.

Where can we find this wonderful hockey data?

  9. clumsyguy

I’m still salty they weren’t the ones out there after Matthews‘ tying goal against Carolina.

  10. Joemcsam729

Ugh that Reilly contract looks worse every day

  11. Rowdy_Roddy96

McCabe / Brodie pair is going to be our ultimate shutdown pair for Tampa’s Top 6 hell yeah

  12. AustichMavarlander

Mccabes skating the last couple of games has been a pleasant surprise

  13. Show me all the stats of people playing with Rielly, I bet its not very good.

Reilly is literally bottom of the list in +/- this season
