What's Next For Lias Andersson? He FLED The AHL & Requested A Trade (2020 New York Rangers – NHL)

Lias Andersson is a polarizing figure in the world of hockey because of a few interesting stories. After getting drafted by the New York Rangers 7th overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, things were looking up for the young Swede. However, throwing his silver medal at the World Juniors into the stands didn’t leave a good impression, nor did his fleeing of the AHL’s Hartford Wolfpack late last year. However, there’s more than meets the eye to this story; why did Andersson leave? Why did he request a trade? Was it simply due to opportunity and deployment, or was there something else at play? The ultimate question we’re trying to discuss in this video, revolves around what’s next for Andersson.

  1. He actually played very well after returning to Sweden. I think he can be a pretty decent player if he returns to New York. Just a note, HV71 is my hometown team.

  2. For some time I thought Lias Anderson was a whiner and was possibly a bust. See this video really represents that he’s basically the same high potential player that came to a club and might of played through some things possibly bulling that affected his mental health and could of affected his game. I don’t know if he’ll be back in New York but I still see a top six forward in him maybe on another team. Feels bad for the guy.

  3. He's a fkg diva, period. He's the kid that threw away his silver medal. He didn't lose the gold medal, he won Silver.

  4. To Ottawa: Lias Anderson

    To Rangers: Drake batherson

Also throw at least a third or fourth to make it go through on rangers side

  5. Andersson is a case of bad development, not a bad pick. I’ve been saying for a while that David Quinn has some kind of vendetta against him but other Rangers fans have written that off. I mean, in the preseason the guy was really good, a solid center who was probably the second best defensive forward behind Zibanejad. Lías said himself that he thought he deserved the 2nd line center role. I think he at least should have gotten a shot at it. But Quinn kept him stapled on the 4th line with Smith and Haley when guys like Brett Howden got a shot at the 2C role. Like, cmon Quinn we have a hole in the lineup and you keep this guy at 5 minutes a night? At least give him a chance! Hopefully in the offseason he is packaged in a trade. My view is Nugent-Hopkins + Puljujarvi for DeAngelo, Andersson and a 2nd, contingent on RNH signing a long term deal.

  6. I don’t find this bullying but on NHL weird one for this season Mika was making fun of how he fell on the wire and in the video he seemed annoyed. So maybe he is misinterpreting what bullying is.

  7. Well when you start your career as the consolation prize, it can do a lot to your mental when the team has low expectations for you.

  8. It's simple Lias Andersson was simply not NHL ready he was given plenty of chances by the Rangers to prove himself but never lived up to the hype. Now he's accusing the Rangers of bullying him I highly doubt it this is ridiculous he got mad because he was demoted to the AHL that's why he left.

  9. Gio just something interesting to say I wonder if this has to do with Coach Quinn. As a Devils fan I do respect the work he’s done in NYC. But I’m wondering if this can correlate to the Kakko scenario in earlier in the year saying he’s Not having fun with playing hockey. These two cases could be similar with each other.

  10. I have a question for you. what camera angle do you use playing nhl 20, I have tried to find one like yours and I can't .

  11. not that I'm making an excuse for Lias Andersson or Jesse from Edmonton but I think that these are young men under a lot of pressure and being bounced around different leagues and teams may not give them time to build confidence and play at a level they are capable of. camera angle????

  12. Quinn seems really good with the american rookies but not so much with the european ones. Kakko, Kratzsov, Andsersson . I didn't like Quinn the day he was hired and still don't I wanted Joel Quenneville

  13. Andersson is a 2-way player, but stronger defensively. You're way off on projection and unlikely he ever reaches 60-70 point range. Realistically, he'll be a 30-40 point player. Comparable would be a Sam Bennett.

  14. I think he should get a real chance and icetime, either a third line center in nhl or a first line center in Ahl to prove himself. But he cant make demands but deserves a coach that likes him

  15. was probably Tony De'Angelo, he's kind of an asshole, that's why he was traded twice

  16. I don't think the pick was that bad. The draft as a whole was weak. It was the Rangers organization not being honest with themselves at the time.

They just got done being embarrassed by Ottawa. They traded Stepan for this pick, and instead of talking about developing, they are saying he'll slot into the third line role come opening night.

Stupidity. Then they go on being a complete mess only for management to admit they suck and blow it up 4 months into the season. Been a yo-yo ever since.

Lias, Howden, even Chytil had no business being on NHL ice last season. I just hope they let Kravtsov marinate.

  17. Now I'm not going to comment on what I don't know but what we do know is he was injured, we don't know if he was pressured by the team to play or he pressured himself to play, but it's hard playing hockey with a foot injury. I think where fans disagree on is his usage. Now I'm not making an argument that he deserved more because of his play but every C spot after Mika was open for competition, from Quinn himself and he out played Strome and Howden and Chytil in the preseason but was still thrown on the 4th line. Howden in particular is interesting because by every advanced metric he is the worst forward yet Quinn likes him so he can do no wrong. On the other hand all we got was Quinn saying it's battle level but no specifics on why even when getting blown out he didn't give more ice time to Anderson. As far as him coming back. First it's doubtful even if he isn't taken by Seattle I don't see him wanting to be on Quinn's team. I can see him playing in the AHL after an apology but he will be on another team eventually. As far as his ceiling he was always projected as a Max 2nd line more likely a 3rd like defensive C with leadership abilities. So saying 60 points is probably way too high of a projection.

  18. Best case scenario…Vincent Trocheck….50 -60 pts
    Worst case scenario…Pavel Zacha….. 35-40 pts

  19. Wow I didn’t know about the bullying thing. I don’t know if it’s true, but if indeed it’s true this really sucks.

  20. I love the kid as a NYR fan but his skating and lack of pace really holds him back. His other qualities like two-way play are good enough so that I can see a good 3C if everything goes well

  21. I think Detroit should trade for him. Maybe another Fabbri type player who needs a change of scenery and a team that will give him top 6 playing time.
