Are the Oilers A TRUE Stanley Cup Favourite?

The Oilers have been on a tear at the right time in the season, picking up wins in seven of their last eight games, thanks to their high-powered offence. Is it time to believe the Oilers are a Cup favourite? TSN Hockey analyst Martin Biron discusses.

  1. WE WANNA HEAR FROM YOU!
If the Oilers goaltending and defence get it going, could the Oilers contend this year for a Stanley Cup?
    Let us know👇

  2. Their offence is insane, top in the league, and they even have depth. The issue is sometimes goaltending and defence. And by defence I don’t just mean the defencemen, but the whole team needs to buy into “team defence”.

  3. Draistatl being only a plus 1 and the fact that this team need 5+ goals a game to win is just the worst in the entire playoff picture. Skinner playing the amount of games he does is also a recipe for burnout or injury. I would not bet on this team making it out of the first round.

  4. Tired looking, inexperienced Skinner with no NHL playoff experience is a Stanley Cup favourite?! With Campbell as back up?! And all this from an ex NHL goaltender in Biron?!

    lol… ok.

  5. The only question mark for the Oilers are their goalies, probably the worst tandem of any team that makes the playoff. But when you have a McDavid in your lineup, nothing is impossible.

  6. Cannot stop other team from scoring. Defense is an issue and goaltending is also. If they get up against a very good defensive team, that has scoring….i just do not think so.

  7. The Top 4 Contenders in the Western Conference right now are the Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche, and Edmonton Oilers. The team in the West that could drive an Opening Round Opponent crazy if they get in is the Nashville Predators.

  8. The oilers are built to play pond hockey (win high scoring games). Not very often you see incomplete teams like that win the cup

  9. Mabe the rainbow jerseys will trans them into a championship 😂

  10. Contenders? Yes. Favourites? Absolutely not.
Their defense needs a big upgrade if they want to win the cup. Not to mention that they do not have depth that the long playoffs run needs. They are literally one injury away from failing.

  11. An Oiler fan here. I consider the Oilers a contender, but not favorites to win the Stanley Cup.

In the East, the top 3 in each division are all loaded up for these playoffs and each have a chance, although BOS is just ridiculously deep since their future-hall-of-fame top-2 centers who would be worth $13.5M on the open market are being paid $3.5M. If there's any team that could be called favorites, it would be the Bruins who are on pace for the best season in the modern era.

In the West, even though they are a bit less deep as compared to last season, the reigning Champs are getting healthy and look like they are starting to peak, so I'd say COL is also favored over the Oilers.

  12. idiot.. who in the East is better… who.. the oilers have beat everyone of the teams you mentioned…this season..hello Mcfly

  13. No. The end.
Winning the Stanley cup takes grit/determination. The Oil have the skill, but is missing the Grit, defense & stand out goaltender.

  14. The goaltending could be an issue for sure but who in the west .besides maybe Colorado, has a top 5 in the league lights out goaltender? And don’t forget, in 2006 the oilers had that guy in Roloson and still couldn’t win it all because he got hurt. The playoffs are a long road, lots can happen.

  15. I don’t see the Oilers getting past the Avs, Kings, or Wild. They simply don’t have the defensive caliber to with the Western Conference. Colorado’s blue line will eat Edmonton alive.

  16. I mean the previous cup winners had a good d man. Now oilers have that guy matias ekholm is that guy so I say oilers are cup bound.

  17. They have the scoring , but with a mediocre defence and weak goaltending , it's don't think they are true defenders . If a team can figure out how to slow down the offence , they are done . They aren't a complete enough team to compete against the big teams from the east .

  18. Oilers goalies are ok. D is better than last year and Forwards have depth. Our Black aces are also looking scary with potentially Holloway there

  19. our goal tending is shaky but look at the teams we play we light them all up we make them play are game not there game we let 5 goals in they let in 7 goals

  20. So many people here that only watch Oilers and no other teams or sports. Our defense isn't perfect, but, with Ekholm, it's above average, that's by the numbers, check the stats. The problem is Campbell. Hypothetically, if we had another backup above average goalie and stick him in to get us at least 5 or 6 more wins that Cambell blew, we are 1st in the Pacific.
