Random King of the Day: Sean O’Donnell. 541 GP / 15 G / 83 A / 98 Pts / +16 / 940 PIM. Drafted 123rd overall in ‘91 and debuted in ‘94. A defensive defenseman who won a Cup with the Ducks but came back and was pivotal in Doughty’s development as they were line-mates for his last two seasons in LA.

  1. forwards have linemates, dmen have partners.

  2. What happened to him? He was commentating on FSW for awhile.

  3. What happened to him doing the Kings live stuff? I just remember Stolly started doing them with him and then he slowly was there less and less, and now no more.

  5. >they were line-mates for his last two seasons in LA.

    *Defense partners*

Yep. Sean was instrumental in Dewey’s early development.

I’ll always remember O’Donnell for the moment when [Courtnall Ran Storr](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jgtP4XNX6I).

It was Game 3 of the first round in 1998, the first time the Kings had made the playoffs since the 1993 Finals run. The Kings were totally blown out in Game 1, and the Kings changed goalies from Fiset, the veteran, to the “rookie” Storr. In Game 2, it was a much closer game, though a 2-1 loss.

Game 3 seemed like the turning of the tide. LA was up 3-0 in the third period, and it almost felt like momentum had changed in LA’s favor. Then Geoff Courtnall on a random dump in ran Storr while he was playing the puck. O’Donnell immediately stood up for Storr and pummeled Courtnall. Courtnall only was given a minor, while O’Donnell was given a five minute major. Of course, the Blues scored four goals in the five minutes, and that was that. Storr clearly did not feel well (today he would probably have been put in concussion protocol because he hit his head on the crossbar). Kings went back to Fiset in Game 4, but the series was already over for all intents and purposes.

O’Donnell’s actions shouldn’t have led to a five minute penalty kill given Courtnall’s dirty play; him standing up for his goalie told me everything I would ever need to know about him as a player.

Omg a photo of doughty learning! That’s hilarious, he’s listening so attentively. He clearly learned a thing or 2
