He should be the next captain. You can tell he has the desire to be a captain – Pettersson could be a captain but I don’t think he’s very well spoken or even very interested in the title to be honest. Feels like the most natural fit from the outside looking in.

    the “significant person” was kneejerk

  3. RonTussbler

Patrick Johnston said on the Rink Wide podcast a couple weeks ago that Petey doesn’t want it, so makes sense.

  4. Hughes, Petterson, Miller. There’s no wrong choice imo.

Ever since Sekeres left The Rascal Flatts, he’s been in tremendous decline.

  6. I don’t understand fans who think they can identify potential captains. I can only assume none of them have ever played team sports. A good captain makes his mark in the room. We’re not in the room.

Pettersson has given no indication he wants it, in fact, he seems apprehensive about even being asked about it. I think Pettersson just wants to focus on his game and lead by his play.

Captaincy is a public facing role where you’re always looked upon to say the politically correct vanilla things. Look at Bo, he was a robot when speaking to the media in his role. Petey doesn’t seem interested in that and that’s perfectly fine.

Heck, if Schenn was still here, I’d be considering him.

  8. Petey’s always seemed hesitant whenever asked about the captaincy, a complete departure to the way Horvat was always welcoming the talks about his captaincy. Seems pretty obvious that he doesn’t really want the burden of being captain.

I never expected Quinn to be the next captain, but if that’s what he wants, I think he should get it.

As great as Bo was and was a great example on and of the ice he was just to cliche an never got really amped up. JT Miller would be the anti Bo. Hughes seems a but too relaxed but the things that come out of his mouth are captain quality. My vote is for Hughes.

Petterrson seems like the natural fit by virtue of his position on the team, if not so much temperament. Hughes is very well spoken, so I’d be fine with him too.

I do admit watching Hughes and his little Eeyore face holding court after every loss seems like it would be faintly hilarious so that’s another plus.

I think refs would listen to Hughes more than Pettersson. How could they ever say “no” to that face? Plus he’s well spoken. I don’t think they’d tune him when he speaks.

Forget about dealing with the media. I think he’s the best on-ice choice. And if he wore the C the league wouldn’t ignore him so much and he’d get the respect he deserves.

If Hughes intends on shipping off to New Jersey the moment he’s a UFA, he doesn’t deserve to sniff captaincy

Petey may not sign with us for his next contract. I think that’s enough of a reason to go with Hughes.

When Hughes is on the ice, the Canucks play like a playoff team. Off the ice, he says all the right things. Easy pick for me

  15. MadGeller

I would love this. Petty os amazing but Hughes just screams Captain mto me

I got downvoted last year for even suggesting Quinn Hughes to be a captain instead of Petey…. Well how the turn tables 😏

  17. ImAnAfricanCanuck

I’ve been saying it, and will continue to back Quinn as captain.

  18. I don’t see Quinn or Petey calling a team meeting or calling out player for bad culture inducing behavior in the locker room. Which is a main task for a captain. A captain is more about creating a culture within the team as a leader. Not just the best player on the team.

  19. jack_of_zero_trades

I would think with Quinn’s competitiveness, he’d set the tone for culture of the team quite well.
