Puljujarvi takes out Acciari – Have your say!

Jesse Puljujarvi injured Noel Acciari on this play, getting his arm and stick up high in the face. There was no call. What should it have been? Tough Call will be reviewing the incident. Have your say!

  1. As a Leafs fan I don't think it was intentional, but I do think it deserved a penalty for interference at the least.

  2. He lined him up and made it look unintentional, that’s how he plays, stumbling all over the ice, sure glad the Oilers dumped him.

  3. I think it is quite reckless to hit with such high arms, and I think it's too reckless for a minor penalty. Had 5 minutes for checking to the head and a game misconduct existed, that might have been the correct call. He has no intent to injure, so it's not a match penalty. Acciari does not have the puck, so 5 for interference and a game miscoduct is a reasonable call. The glove holding the stick did hit him in the head, but there is no evidence that the butt-end of the stick was exposed, so it's not butt-ending.

  4. From one angle it looks like he tried to make it less harmful but, from others it looks like he was going in for a check. Also looks like he got him with the buttend of his stick. Should he be punished, I don't think so, looks pretty clean.

  5. I don't think it was intentional, but that's irrelevant. Intention doesn't matter, it still should have been called.

  6. Onus is on Pulj to avoid that collision. It occurs because he is to far ahead of the play and doesn't want to be offside. It takes one mental decision to slow and step around the contact, but he instead makes the decision to simply raise his arms into the contact. If it were unintentional he would choose to avoid it instead as it was very easy to avoid. That said I don't think he had the intent to injure I just don't think he has the mental acuity to set aside his own planned drive into the zone.
He does not approach the scene with the intent to make contact but it was a very simple hit to avoid and only lacked the decision to do so, which does make the contact incidentally intentional. He had the time to put up his arms, he most definitely had the time to avoid it.
I have less issue with it occurring than with there being no call on the play.

  7. It's a call, but he didn't do it on purpose. More like an accidental situation. Shit happens.

  8. I could be convinced that this was incidental contact, but the replay that starts at about 0:35 with contact at about 0:40 shows Puljujavi raising and extending his hands/arms to effectively clothesline Acciari. Had Puljujarvi's arms stayed down they may have still made contact but there would not have been contact to either player's head or an injury. I believe this play to be intentional by Puljujarvi and should have been an Elbowing Penalty with further look from the league regarding suspension.
