Created a poster for Nicklas Backstrom that I’ll display in the Caps vs Habs game on April 6th. What do you think does this have a good chance of grabbing his attention ? ( I don’t know swedish, I asked for help on reddit)

  1. I may be overly pessimistic but if a random redditor gave you the translation you may want to type it into translate.google.com just to verify it.

Does it not feel a little disingenuous writing the sign in Swedish just to catch his attention when you don’t speak the language? I would find it fitting if not wholesome if it were a swede/Swedish speaker writing it, but it almost feels like pretending you know the language when he certainly knows your native language in addition to his?

It says, Hi Nicklas, you are the greatest/most awsome/coolest (the word ”grymmaste”, has a wide meaning in sweden) fucking (”jävla” translates over as fucking, but in this context it’s somthing positiv, and in sweden and scandinavia vi use ”jävla” all the time as somthing positiv) hockey player i ever seen. Is it posible that i could get a puck so i could remember this game for the rest of my life?

So all in all it says this:

Guys could you tell me how it’s morally wrong for me to write in Swedish even though I don’t speak it. At the end of the day, I’m only making a poster that is supposed to show him how much I appreciate him. I get that reddit likes to downvote things but is there a valid reason why that is ?

  6. It’s “reste**n** av livet” not “reste**r**”. Not a big deal but fixable if you want it to be perfect.
