While the Mavericks were supposed to take the next step, Luka Doncic isn’t happy. In fact he’s angry and looks defeated, not as defeated as the Mavericks were when they lost to the second worst team in the NBA Hornets in back to back games with former Maverick Dennis Smith Jr talking his talk

And while the Mavericks have seemingly become even worse after adding Kyrie, the issue goes much deeper than one trade.

Yeah, the Mavericks are currently the 11th seed in the West, below .500 despite Luka averaging 33 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8.1 assists.

They’re 6th in offense and an ugly 23rd on defense. There’s a whole lot of my turn – your turn basketball, with Kyrie standing in the corner.

Kyrie is looking even more miserable on the Mavs than he did on the Nets.

Now Luka’s said that there are things going outside of basketball. Not sure exactly what’s going on, but we can easily see the frustration in the on the court activities.

Before this season, the Mavericks were ranked the 8th best team in the NBA.

This lineup is supposed to go far?

Again, putting a lot on Luka’s shoulders. And I get it, you could say Luka is only 23, the team hasn’t had enough time to build around him. Luka’s been averaging 28 points since his second season. By 2020, Luka had already hit game winners in the playoffs and averaged a near triple double. He’s already a 4 time All-Star. Which means the Mavericks have had 3 years to a lineup around him and came up with this.

But even before the trade, the defense this season took a big step back from the year before, going from 7th to 24th. The Mavs relied on a fine balance of defense and shooting from wings like Bullock and Finney Smith, but they still didn’t have any rim protection. Javale Mcgee has only played 38 games on off dealing with injury.

Without Finney Smith, now perimeter players are doing whatever they want. They’re forced to go with offense heavy lineups leaving them with no interior defense, rim protection or shot blocking.

Sure the most recent mistake was Jalen Brunson. **Thank you by the way, really helped us out.** Now Brunson is a borderline All-star level player and his 4 year $104 million contract seems like a steal for the Knicks, but the Mavericks could have gotten him for $14 million a season in 2021. Yeah, but they wanted flexibility to have cap space to sign new people. But what people did they sign? Spencer Dinwiddie?

But that’s not even their only mistake. The Mavericks have a history of failing in building teams.

But even with this, Jason Kidd never had Luka’s attention. Remember when Luka got out of shape. No like really out of shape last season . Jason Kidd tried to tell Luka to lose weight, but he said that “it goes in one ear and out the other” but when Reggie Miller called Luka out on it, Luka acknowledged it, lost a lot of weight, and told Miller, “Understood”. Kidd thanked Reggie but

This isn’t to say that Luka isn’t at fault. Like I’ve said before, if you’re the best player on your team, you have a choice of being a leader, especially if there’s no other voice in the locker room. Complaining constantly, looking dejected, all of that is going to trickle down to other team members.

The Mavericks have landed a superstar, a generational talent, and don’t know what to do. They have made mistake after mistake and are unable to do anything and at this point, Luka is just done.

  1. mav's have all sorts of problems. Jason kidd was a special basketball player, and certainly can be very good teaching specific players new and expanded skills. However, he never seemed like a very smart person. Head coaches need to be smart, they need to know basketball but also have the mental ability to coach guys. If a player thinks the they are smarter than the coach then why would they listen? I was living in Phoenix when Jason played there. His then wife was a local news personality. Jason had opportunities to be seen off the court. Pretty great player. Probably a great skills teacher and talent developer. But he is out of his depth as a coach, and why GM's still have not figured this out… I have no idea.

  2. Seeing the heat put up 44 points in the first quarter against them today paints a perfect picture 😅

  3. Kyrie is the main problem. He's one hell of an athlete and basket ball player nobody cant take it away from him but he manages to overshadowed that with things he does off the court which brings tons of distractions to the team. Just look at play offs dude was playing on empty stomach and only eating a banana during ramadan or his stance on vax his opinion of course but that opinion had consequences on the success of his team. Then his whole jews rant or whenever he needs time to go spiritual hunting in the Himalayas so he meditate and sing kumbayah under the sun. Luka here is to blame too. He doesn't play any defense at all he shoots the ball too much and some of his shots aren't making it, in meaning he's wasting shots someone else in his team could've of made.
Both of these guys are primary ball handlers so the balls need to stay in their hands because because the offense is being led by them 2. Both are to blame here. Cuban should've done everything to keep Bronson. Instead he let em go for nothing to the Knicks. Im saying this because mavs were in a better place when bronson was with them.

  4. This dude gets paid millions to play a childs game, doesnt have to worry or stress over bills and living a hard life. This guys a dam whiner 😆 Zero sympathy for him.

  5. The problem with the nba, is that defense wins games. Always has. You got to be lights out on offense or play a team with no d. Otherwise you’re giving the game up to the refs. 😂

  6. Imo His ball domination gets other players out of rhythm he should play off ball a bit.

  7. At this point it's obvious that Luka is Bird 2.0. So why wouldn't they get him people who are similar to the guys Bird had? Get him some role-playing studs and the ships will be sailing.

  8. Luka is a great player but could be better if he understood how to get the ball out of his hands earlier. His style of play can sometimes put alot of pressure on others to make things happen when the shot clock is about to run out.

  9. Not J kid fault n Kyrie is the problem he ONLY quiet cause he trying to be on his best behavior for another team this summer cause he can walk free

  10. I mean these days what superstar actually stays with the team that drafts them…??
The team had to be HORRIBLE to even land them, and it take 10 seasons to make a contender

  11. Wait till Kyrie walks away this summer, Kidd gets fired, and they lose Wood. Gave away any shred of defense and playmaking to watch Kyrie and Luka iso their way out of the play in.

  12. Jkidd have been proven he only could be assistant coach.. look at bucks seen he gone they have a ring and consistently been contenders every year

  13. Is this the first time in NBA history no Texas team has made the playoffs? Also, have we ever seen all 4 California teams make the playoffs?

  14. No one believed the Los Angeles Lakers would be the eighth seed five games before the end of the season. The Dallas Mavericks' only "Plan B" (signing-and-trading Kyrie Irving for D'Lo and Malik Beasley) is probably off the table.

Maybe it's not too late to tank for Victor Wembanyama? Or is 2023 one of the first round draft picks the Mavs traded for Uncle Drew? 🤔

  15. That’s the organizations job to understand their current players before adding another ball dominant PG to the roster. What is a coach supposed to do with whinny superstar crying to the refs every possession and an aloof superstar who dribbles the air out the ball every possession? Kyrie and Lebron worked because there was no doubt who was running the team and offense. KD and Kyrie might of worked because KD only needs 15 shots to score 90 points lol 😂 kyrie is a better all around shooter than Luka and Luka is a better all around playmaker, due to his size, ball handling and strength. The Mavericks were 2 games over .500 before trading away their chemistry for shock value. How would you bedroom pc set up, never played a day of pro level basketball bloggers and android comment bots coach this situation any better?

  16. Can we stop acting like luka is apart from all this. Mave tried to go for a home run with Kyrie because yalllll kept complaining about how luka has nothing and no one and most ppl thought those two would propel them at the time so don’t even act like u were against it. No one gave KD a pass for barely making the playoffs and getting swept because he was a supposed top 1-5 player. If luka is as good as billed this is squarely on him as the best player on the team. Two games he missed point blank layups for the win, even the homer talk radio hosts talk about how long he holds the ball and stagnates the offense. It’s clear to me he doesn’t know how to play with other top tier stars or players. Brunson is killing. Hold this man accountable. No reason they should not be making the play in

  17. That one play when the Mavs thought it was their ball when it was actually Warriors ball has been the season in a nutshell. No defense crying about stuff that doesn't go their way the coaching staff not realizing it was warriors ball. Its been the season in a nutshell. Also going 3-5 mins without scoring fml

  18. Luka is the biggest crybaby in the HISTORY of sports. He's awful too watch play

  19. Their offense is predictable its literally give it to luka. Then lets have kyrie take a shot at it
