  1. this is the first year where his offense isn't based on PP points, his 5v5 offense is elite and barely has any goals on the powerplay. take a look at his even strength numbers, he's taken a huuuge step this year

  2. Note to myself. All these hockey channels that keep getting recommended to me are worthless. Just another sad NHL addict with no more insight than anyone can generate by just staring out a window and letting your mind wander.
Just a time wasting concatenation of cliches.

  3. Didn't he have two concussions and some other injury too? When you take that into account, it's not weird that his previous high was 68 points. Anyone who knows anything about hockey could see he's a 90-100 point player when healthy.

If McDavid and Bergeron weren't around (and if the Canucks were a bit better), I could see him winning both the Art Ross and the Selke in a good year.

  4. We saw it in this kid from the first year… but we also saw it in brock boeser and THAT is what is genuinely shocking. He seems to have kinda stay around the 50 point mark (this is without playing full season) and thats where he is going to end this season too (playing the full season).. what happened to him?

  5. When we have our number 1 goaly. We do have a team. One more amazing dman one more good tops 6 player. With a decent backup goalie

  6. I would not call this “shocking” as EP40 was a phenom before coming to the NHL and had always been capable of making jaw dropping plays. It was only a matter of time before he got comfortable. Which is why I got both of EP’s All-Star jerseys during his rookie year. I hope I’ll be able to get them signed one day.

  7. He had a sophmore slump that went into injuries, bit of bad luck… But yes I saw this coming. His shot, playmaking ability, and hockey IQ were all pointing to this being the case. I'm not sure who you've been speaking to that downplayed him so bad but I've been singing his praises since before he entered the league

  8. One thing I think was untouched on in this video is how great this guy is in the defensive end as well. Hes a top 10 point producer in this league and I would also argue that he has been playing like a top 10 defensive forward as well.

  9. dont forget he has consistently been in the hockey writers top 5 selke odds every month, not to say hes a bergeron or kopitar but he is still responsibly defesnively

  10. Let JT be the captain and not get distracted so that Pety can quietly put up points…

  11. He should be in the Selke conversation for sure too. His 10 penalty minutes could get some Lady Byng votes as well, as pointless as the trophy is.

  12. People who watched him play in his rookie season saw this potential in him

  13. One thing to note, Pettersson has a goal or assist on over 50% of both Kuzmenko and Beauvillier's points. He's the one carrying those 2.

  14. the canucks has never pick 1st overall, so we know that we are not getting bedard, and therefore most fans here are not that disappointed

  15. You forgot to mention that he's one of the best centers in his own end in the entire NHL.

  16. Since January 1st, he’s been the best even strength forward in the league. That’s right even better than McDavid in even strength play since Jan 1st 😏

  17. Before the season Vancouver media spoke about year 4 as MacKinnon’s superstar breakout year and could Petey do the same?? Looks like yes.

  18. Always knew this player was there.

The hot take is this: he's the second best player in the NHL

  19. Captain? maybe a few years later. If there was a assisting, temporary captain or "vice captain" he would be the guy now.

  20. I have to admit that I was one of the MANY Canuck fans that were calling for Petterson to be traded last season.
As far as Captain, I agree he is Captian material, BUT so is Hughes. I personally would make Hughes the Captian.

  21. What I am impressed with is that not many of his points are off the PP. Most are at full strength.

  22. „There‘s no draisaitl here alongside with him“

I‘m not feeling that sentiment here or the implications. If draisaitl would be in Vancouver Petterson would be the clear number 2 in that team. Not the other way around.

  23. Not shocking at all. His down seasons were the anomaly. What he did in Sweden as a rookie was insane. It set up some pretty big expectations for his rookie NHL season and he delivered. I figured he'd get 100 points the next season. This is simply him living up to his potential.

What's been more surprising and what should be talked about even more, is his defensive play. I don't know what the current numbers are but I'm gonna guess they haven't changed, but EP was miles ahead of McDavid when it came to defensive play. Obviously McDavid is the greatest player in the league, but when you factor in the defensive side of the game the gap probably isn't a clear or as wide as you might think.

Regardless, he should continue to be a 100 point guy for a long time. It would be shocking if he wasn't.

  24. My guess is that when he was building up his body he lost the precision until his brain and muscle memory got used to the new configuration.

  25. Being from the same town as him, we’ve seen this coming since he broke through as a rookie in Hockeyallsvenskan

  26. Vancouver should be a playoff team, I don't get why they're not. I guess it's their defence that's lacking.
