Can Devon Levi Save Buffalo Sabres?

Devon Levi signed an 3 year entry level contract with the Buffalo Sabres. Devon Levi has been one of the best goalies in NCAA Division 1 College hockey. He won the Mike Richter Award in 2021-2022 for best Goaltender in the college hockey and is up again for the award this season. Can Devon Levi finally give the Buffalo Sabres their franchise goaltender?

  1. Devin Levi reminds me of Richter's style, athletic and not afraid to face the shooter. Devin Levi…that's a Hall of Famer name. But in this league, who knows. Seems like the first to go is the coach, then the next to go is the goalie. How will Devin adapt to NHL play? I agree it's detrimental. Look at Donnie Beaupre of the North Stars, great goalie in the lower ranked leagues and he ends up on 4 teams in a short career because "the goalie is our problem". No, you yanked this kid out of the developmental leagues and threw him in front of players who, while I was growing up, after their careers were over went on to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Where's Donnie now? Fuck if I know.

  2. As someone who’s watched Levi play in person a few times, I think he’ll be the next big goalie to come out of North America

  3. Anderson is still doing a great job, he's just too old. Levi and UPL will be a nasty 1-2 punch, although I'm not sure either guy is even close to ready to take that starting role.

  4. In a perfect world he would go on a playoff run in Rochester this year then spend a full year there next year. That would probably get him ready for the NHL.

  5. A shooter Tudor for a goalie would save the Sabres. The 3 they have never seem to get the big save.

  6. I'll put two names before you….Ken Dryden and Tom Barrasso. Dryden came out of college hockey to back-stop the Canadiens to the 1971 Stanley Cup, winning the Conn Smythe Trophy, and then went on to win the Calder Trophy the following season. Barrasso went straight out of U.S. high school hockey and won the Calder Trophy and Vezina Trophy in his rookie year. Who's to say that Levi couldn't step right into the NHL right away?

  7. Not this year or next year but yeah, he looks very promising given he is having one of THE best season a college goalie has ever had, besides Ryan Miller

  8. Very well could be that was part of negotiations for levi to sign was to be in Buffalo not Rochester they didn't want to lose him

  9. Why do Sabres need saving? Youngest team in the league Great scoring Need D This is next step

  10. The team is desperate for a top goalie but the defense must be improved as well if they hope to see Levi become successful

  11. I'd give him a few game this season in the NHL put Comrie on the IR, give him some preseason games next season but regular season AHL. Hope UPL makes improvements in the off season knowing Levi is coming

  12. Ken Dryden couldn’t save this team if they (1) can’t defend (2) can’t clear the crease (3) can’t hold leads (4) only score AFTER giving up a goal or two (5) can’t kill penalties (6) can’t win face-offs (7) can’t win at home (8) can’t throw a check outside one or two players (9) can’t show emotion but every other game (10) Comrie sucks, thought Dell was bad.

I am NOT in favor of throwing Levi to the wolves. Let him play next year AFTER Buffalo has made serious changes. Starting w/ the Coaches behind Granato. 😠

  13. I’m sure he can help the Sabres but not save them . I watch every game and the effort isn’t there . I watch other NHL games and the Sabres ain’t even in the same league in regards to effort . The talent is there don’t get me wrong but the Sabres don’t skate hard enough I’m serious. They lost today 7-0 to Boston and on most of the goals the Sabres were just coasting around not even skating as hard as they can or should . I’m not sure if they need a new coach or what

  14. I think he's the best option on the roster for RIGHT NOW. Anderson is still good.. but at 41… he can't carry the load like he did in his days in Denver. UPL and Comrie both have shown flashes of greatness.. but they've both shown flashes of why they are not considered top flight too (just take today's Bruins loss.) I remember another Sabres star from ages past. He was drafted out of High School and started immediately… Tom Barrasso. Won the Calder in his rookie season at 18. He also won a cup in Pitt. Is Levi ready? Sad as it sounds, he's probably more ready right now, than 2 of the other 3 on the roster. (namely, UPL and Comrie)

  15. Keep him in Rochester until Sabres get the shit in front of him figured out and can clear there own zone ffs. I don't think throwing him in this time of year with a defense that plays like ass is a good thing to build confidence or leaving a goalie in when getting peppered 7-0 not talking Boston but kinda lol.

  16. Why not put Devon Levi in net against New Jersey maybe he can bring them in the playoffs. I would give him a chance.

  17. If you can play like Ryan Miller I'm happy Buffalo sabres are in good shape
