The more I hear about this the less I think JT is going to get moved. It’s a very complicated deal to make, Pittsburgh has to move money. Vancouver wants to find a young centre if they do move Miller. Sounds like a lot of road blocks to overcome to make that deal.

They might be open to it if they can get a ton of value but I’m not convinced moving JT is a priority at all.

I love JTM. We need more players like him…

…however if the return is 2 first round picks + (as this article reports), JT, go kick ass In Pittsburgh and help yourself, Crosby and Letang win another Cup!

    No brainer.

I still think J.T. to the Penguins just makes a lot of sense.

Miller is a very good player who could make a real difference helping them compete as Crosby, etc. age. The returns would allow management to re-tool this team into their vision. Obviously it creates a huge hole at C, but this roster just needs more turnover.

I think on true talent this team can still accomplish being a playoff team next year even with this type of re-tooling move. And with JT gone, there’s more room for the team to continue growing.

The two teams are going to have to realize that the trade doesn’t have to be perfect for it to be good. We don’t need a young 2c right away.

If this is true, the Hronek trade makes a bit more sense. Use one pick to address a key need at RD because there’s a good chance you’ll get two back. Canucks must’ve thought this deal was close.

Also explains why Miller miraculously recovered from a “week-to-week” injury and the Penguins pivoted to making a terrible deal for Mikael Granlund out of nowhere.

The Penguins seem to want to go all-in to compete before Crosby and Malkin decline. It makes sense.

  6. NotaRussianChabot

It seems to me that PA+JR signed Miller knowing full well that the penguins were an easy destination for him someday, if necessary. His no-move clause doesn’t mean shit if the destination is his hometown, he’d be stoked to go play there.

They can make this trade anytime next year if they want.

  7. Slarrp1

We’re not making playoffs again next year are we 🙁

This franchise feels so lost haha

  8. If it’s still on the table I hope we find a way to get a favorable Miller trade sone before Hextall is run out of Pit!

  9. > “Frank Servalli, formerly of TSN and now with Daily Faceoff, revealed details of the failed trade deadline deal”

That line alone is making me take this with a massive grain of salt.

But if true, then I guess Rutherford is true to his word and this is a “retool”.

5 or 6 years from now, after Miller has been declining dramatically for years, when we are desperately trying to dump his albatross contract and are being forced to pay massively to do it, we’ll look back on this and realize we were utter morons to refuse two 1st round picks for him…

  11. happigofucky

Oh my fucking god they better do that deal this summer

  12. My_boy_baron

An insider you say, you have my attention. Oh it’s Frank servelli… nevermind

  13. jholden23

I’d they’d made this trade there’s a chance I’d be at the game in a Canucks jersey tonight…. But here we are

  14. MGM-Wonder

I don’t think it’s worth giving up Miller even for two 1st’s. Those are risks that won’t become anything for 3 years minimum, and losing Miller makes our team worse. If we do that I think Hughes says enough and walks.

  15. crap4you

“Two first-round picks won’t do much for Vancouver’s win-now philosophy that’s seemingly in play”

    Interesting take.

  16. Oso1marron1

Seravalli is suspect when it comes to reporting

  17. SourGrapesFTW

I’ll go ahead and take this with a grain of salt.

This is just Seravelli hypothesizing. “He thinks” is being used over and over…

  18. yeetmemommmy

If the pens gave two firsts or even 3 if they’re crazy and whatever else they wanna add I would totally take that. Crosby and Malkin are still great (in decline tho of course) and they have a good goalie so if they wanna go all in for their aging core I would try to capitalize on that as quick as possible before other teams swoop in. They’re already mediocre and I dont think JT would put them over the top. So those picks would be very valuable

  19. burnabybambinos

Allvin stared into the camera and said he NEVER had an offer for Miller, and only 1 team called. Seravelli has taken this info, called some agents, and spun a rumor out of it.

GM has also confirmed, JT isn’t going to be discussed unless a team has a 2C to offer,. We all see how limited Aman, Studnicks and Dries are, they can’t play top 6.

  20. BroliasBoesersson

But I remember folks saying JT was worthless and we’d have to pay to get rid of his contract! This article is clearly wrong, the NHL GMs that post on Reddit wouldn’t lie to us!

  21. championchipcookie

If they can get a similar package before the draft, great. If not, that’s pretty fucking brutal.

I would’ve been on the phone with central registry within seconds if that offer was on the table.
