As I’ve done in the past, I’ve compiled a list of all players under contract of playoff bound teams, who have spent time in the Canadiens organization. I’ve included 10 teams in each conference, so not every team in this photo will make the playoffs.
Some of these players are AHL players or are injured at this point and are unlikely to play, but I still included them as they could be part of the black aces, or used in the event of injuries.
What I noticed is many of the players we would like to see win, have already won a Stanley Cup in the past (Toffoli, Lehkonen, Eller).
Personally, I would love to see either Danault or Kulak win, but I thought I would share this photo so you can quickly see which former Canadiens have a chance at winning the Stanley Cup this year.
Edit: Thanks to u/Giontatas and u/the_canadaball for correcting me on the spelling of Michael, and letting me know I somehow missed Halak on the Rangers. [Here is a corrected version of the chart.](https://i.imgur.com/Sx6q8DT.jpg)

I’d you put all these guys on the same team they wouldn’t sniff the playoffs

You know this makes me think about how many “filler players” we’ve had over the years. Guys who are there one season and then they leave and you didn’t even notice.

Looking at this, the best lineup I can make (assuming Patch is healthy and not counting Hagel) is:
Tatar-Danault-Pacioretty
Lehkonen-Kotkaniemi-Toffoli
Domi-Eller-Perry
Poehling-Staal-Dadonov
Cousins
Sergachev-McDonagh
Romanov-Petry
Kulak-Merrill
Gustafsson
Halak
Tokarski
Kinkaid
Not great, but I wonder how it compares to the current roster
(Edit: added Halak)

I’d be interested in seeing this exercise for other teams. It always feels like there are a whole lot of ex-Habs out there but I assume we only notice because it’s the team we follow.
I gotta imagine most teams would have a list similarly deep?

If Hagel is there you gotta put Sebastian Aho too

I had no idea Galchenyuk was even playing this year until now. I thought I heard something about him and his sister going into business together and it sounded like he was doing that instead of hockey, but I pay so little attention to guys outside of our conference (except Lehky). Only 10 games played though, 5 of which were in March. Was he injured?
ETA: Looks like they sent him down to the AHL, where he had 37 points in 38 games.

Quite a few of these will likely not actually be participating (ex. Pacioretty, Baddock, Kinkaid)

good to see, thanks for posting. this decides it for me on WPG(no ex-Habs) vs CGY (Toffoli)

There’s not a single guy on that list that I see and think ‘man I’d be really happy for him if he won a cup’ I think I’ll cheer for them these playoffs.

Amazing that Mike McCarron still has a career in the NHL considering what a busy he seemed when we gave up on him. I know he is not a major piece for Nashville but just saying! Reminds me of when we traded Nathan Beaulieu or Jared Tinordi. I thought those guys would disappear but they kept playing for quite a while! Also I know Chucky had it rough but I’m glad he is still playing.

You can scratch off Pacioretty
Curious about the “*” on Hagel
