Agreed. This is also part of why baseball is unwatchable.

Well the As are notoriously cheap and lower the integrity of the mlb. As a mets fan, i can acknowledge the spending is wild, but also a fresh breath of air from the wilpons.

Probably speaks to the value of a floor and cap, even though a soft cap would be better for hockey imo. Hate seeing teams lose players they develop bc they hit on too many picks or developed too many studs.

I guess if there was no salary cap, smaller cities couldn’t have major league sports team.

  4. Hufflepuff_Baseball

There should be a salary floor at the very least

Edit: I mean in baseball, I thought this was a baseball subreddit for a second

Yeah, but how much of that is going to Bobby Bonilla?

This is too much diversity. I remember a few years back; the Marlins entire payroll was less than the Yankees were paying Alex Rodriguez. Unpopular statement upcoming:

I wish all the major sports would go more low-end (not as low as the A’s), and pass the savings on to their fans. Lower ticket prices? It’s been pointed out to me by others that the owners would just keep the extra money instead. It’s a lose-lose situation…

All owners in the MLB are billionaires. Cohen is spending some of his on his team. The As are just known for being cheap AF and trying to kill their market to facilitate a move to Vegas.

I’m bias as a Mets fan but… a lot of the owners in the MLB are cheap AF and just pocket their revenue sharing from the luxury gap instead of investing it into their teams.

This is why we need a damn salary floor.

  9. No. This is why player and management salaries need to be reeled in. It’s out of control at this point….

If you look at this and think the Mets are the problem then idk what to tell you. Put a salary floor in place, make teams like the As actually spend money it will help to distribute talent more evenly across the league.

Fisher is worth a couple billion. He’s just cheap AF and wants a new stadium. Granted the Oakland coliseum is a gigantic dump, but you can’t say “We can’t compete with bigger clubs” when your cheap ass doesn’t want to pony up the cash to keep your talent.

  12. JoeRicherme

Tbf how many times has the team that spent the most won?

  13. Thatmadmankatz

Why are ppl in favor of hard caps? If a team dosnt spend to improve that fanbase should be livid. I would be livid. Having all the money isn’t in the world isn’t going to guarantee a championship.

  14. pugwalker

Yep, mets owner needs to be protected from blowing a third of a bil for a trash team.

  15. Jlindahl93

Moronic take that only incentives shit owners. Oakland has one of the worst owners in sports

  16. RedRiot306

I mean have you guys seen Oakland’s stadium?

  17. YanksFanInSF

More like a salary floor. The A’s have had some success sure, but they are far from a model franchise for attracting fans. Stadium is terrible, any decent player is guaranteed to be gone before arbitration hits. Sure the Mets spending like crazy isn’t ideal either, but rather see a team go for it than the crap the A’s throw against the wall trying to find the next trade chip.
