On today’s episode of Locked on Wild, we discuss the most burning questions the Wild will need to answer before the Playoffs start. We start by discussing the current state of the Central Division and where the Wild could end up finishing in the standings. We discuss the remaining schedule for Colorado, Dallas and Minnesota to see who has the inside track to take the Division title. We move to trying to get particular parts of the lineup going again. Mats Zuccarello has been struggling, and hopefully getting Kirill Kaprizov back in the lineup will help get him going. We also discuss the special teams units, with a focus again on the Power Play being able to add Kaprizov back into the fold. We finish by discussing where Gustav Nyquist could fit in the lineup, with Kirill moving back into his normal spot on the top line and how that could impact the rest of the lineup. If the Wild play this smartly they will utilize the entire lineup throughout the duration of a series on both offense and defense.

I think CO wins the Central. They've played 2 fewer games than MN & DAL. DAL has an easier schedule than MN so my guess is Wild finish 3rd and play Dallas.
Hey. Looking good kid!
The Wild had their chance but it was going to be a tough road to finishing first with these two Vegas games kind of killing that opportunity. Colorado has the inside track and if they finish 1st, I hope the Wild doesn’t exert too much juice trying to get home ice. It really doesn’t mean that much as all these teams are so even. I hope the lesson was learned last year against the Blues. Just get healthy, 97 was skating yesterday, maybe Nyquist plops in and look out. With 97, the PP will improve tremendously as will the first line and this will give opponents nightmares. I really like our chances, feel like this group is geared towards a deep run. Need to get out of R1, then depth and physicality can start to show. The roster spots will be interesting. Great podcast..
I don’t think it would be a terrible idea to move Heartsy onto that 3rd line and put Nyquist with Zuccy and 97. Id be interested to see if there was chemistry there. Plus, Heartsy is going to crush it anywhere he plays. That’s just his game.
Mad respect for the Wild this year from an Avs fan. I think they made a lot of nice moves that will pay off in the playoffs and Reeves will be an asset for that physical presence needed to make a deep run. Also think the team got better having to play without Kaprisov for a while. Too much dependence on one guy usually means an early exist as the opposing team will neutralize that one player which happened in the Blues series last year. Only team from the west I had any concern about in last years playoffs was Edmonton. This year, I could see either the Oilers, Wild, Kings, VGK or Avs representing the west in the finals. Avs still the favorite but the gap certainly closed a bit.
Hoping one of us finishes in first so we can get a second round matchup and good luck the rest of the way.
