The Oilers Powerplay is SCARY GOOD…

This video talks about the historically good Edmonton Oilers powerplay that is on pace to set an NHL record this year. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are the main cogs, but Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Zach Hyman and even Evan Bouchard make this top unit one of the best we’ve ever seen in the NHL!

  1. I remember when the Oilers power play was trash just a couple years ago. Even with McDavid and Draisaitl. Their first unit had 5 left handed shots. What has changed to where they were one of the worst power plays to record setting power play?

  2. With all due respect to the Habs/Isles teams of the late 1970s/80s, Hockey was a different game back then. Very passive defense and no butterfly style goaltending.

  3. And no one going anywhere any time soon, either (Bouchard being the only guy not locked up for at least two years but he's an RFA and should get signed without issue).

  4. problem is oilers will be the most penalized and get the least pp's in the playoffs. watch, bettman will not let a canadian team make it to the finals.

  5. Going to be interesting to see how this translates in the playoffs when 5 v 5 is more prevelant. If the NHL decides to call nothing, especially the familiar moving pick, its not gonna matter much.

  6. Unfortunately refs put away the whistle for the playoffs, so no cup this year because they won't get enough PP time. I know McDavid is ready to do it all himself if need be, but it won't be enough.

  7. While they are amazing right now, during the playoffs the refs tend to allow a lot more indiscretions to occur thus not being part of the outcome. The fact the Oilers are now starting to tighten up on Defense is way more important than an insane powerplay come playoffs. It is great for us the fans during regular season to see how incredibe these guys are gelling.

  8. Don't forget about Kane that can walk in at any time and he his #300 hundred goal ! Settings up for the playoffs 👍🏾💯🇨🇦

  9. The real reason teams fear it, is because on a hot streak it’s actually 50% like at the start of the season for example

  10. The reason we lost to the blues 2 times this year is because the blues are the least penalized team in the league😂

  11. Weren't they saying that the Oilers are the only team in history to have at least 30% for both at home and on the road?

  12. What people don't realize either is that while their powrplay is this good, they still have the 4th most even strength goals this season. Crazy

  13. when they don't need to worry too much about playing defense they can be good… shame they also need to score 8 goals a game to win

  14. And this why refs don’t wanna give Edmonton any power plays. Do know how many infractions I see on Edmonton that never gets called it’s really annoying

  15. Nonsense. They score so many times because they have McDavid who scores himself a lot and creates many more scoring opportunities for others.

  16. 7.2% lower than the Oilers is #2. 7.2% lower than number two is number 26. They're just in a league of their own.

  17. the thing that makes the Oilers powerplay so deadly is their ability to change tactics on the fly.

  18. Since the Ekholm trade the powerplay has actually gotten better at over 35%, which is crazy. I thought that number would drop off with Tyson Barrie gone.

  19. It’s wild how Evander Kane isn’t on the PP. I’m not saying I don’t agree with it, but it just goes to show how deep their forwards are. On basically any other team Kane is on top PP
