“He didn’t mean to make head contact” who the fuck cares, head contact is head contact. What’s next, “he didn’t mean to high stick”? Was fine with the loss but that pissed me off.. either way great test and held our own after the start- love Timo playing to the buzzer, get fucked Boston – see you in the ECF

  2. ChannelShot7061

Anywho, put the whole team in boxing lessons for their entire summer break. See y’all Tuesday.

  3. I think the Bruins forecheck was incredibly impressive, but it’s also hard to tell when the Devils have one of their worst passing nights of the season. Just an absolute shit show. And despite that, one goal game. There’s probably optimism to be had from that. But that’s for tomorrow, tonight is about hoping Marchand trips face first into a brick wall.

  4. gothenburgpig

A lot of people might not realize this because it was mentioned once on the broadcast, but Jack is tied for most points by a Devil in a season!

  5. angrytom31

2007 vibes. GG to the B’s for probably breaking the season record. We all know they ain’t won shit yet just like the the 16-0 who won what that year?

  6. Devil_Dane

Just quickly stopping by to observe that the overwhelming amount of Bruin salt flowing over Timo Meier is *hi-larious*.

Yeah so I can already see people coming in calling negative opinons on Blackwood some emotional hottake. I’ve been watching this guy since he joined the team. Watching that many bad games since COVID is NOT an emotional hottake. It’s quite a solid sample size of him being not very reliable.

We got VV, we got Akira, we can make things works. And seeing Mac ruin evening after evening because it’s all a technicallity because we’d have to put him on waivers yeah yeah does not help me much when I see stuff like the 0:2 today. With the waivers I could at least wipe my tears away.

Apoligists will point out that Blackwood was solid after the first period which is kinda hilarious because this is where we lost the game. And the second goal (which is the GWG) was like 200% his fault. So saying that BW lost us the game is NOT a hottake, it’s basically the facts.

And from what I’ve seen if you look at all the arguments from the pro side, he’s the most average goaltender in the NHL, basically a neutral factor in time and space on a team with a winning mentaility which has shifted into a gear where average is not enough.

“Goalie didn’t lose us the game” is the mentality that was fine maybe last season. But the team has moved on from that. Almost everyone else (besides maybe Palat) has played ABOVE expectations this season. Inclunding our other goaltenders. If everyone else makes and he stands still, he’s still behind.

The Devils have risen (from Hell) above mediocracy into the one of the best teams in the leauge. The expectations towards our goaltenders should reflect that.

  8. Laymans_Terms19

Fire Lindy. Blackwood could start the next two if you’re worried about getting Vitek rest. Biggest game of the year we start our make a wish goalie.

  9. Sauronsindexfinger

Bruins trap. They clog the neutral zone just like the Devils used to do. It’s incredibly effective and incredibly boring. But it’s ok as long as it’s not the Devils. 🙄
And Marchand looked like an old slow fucking twat on that play and that’s why he decided to cheap shot the third best face-off guy in the league.

  10. Devilsfan118

Pasta throwing a hissy fit after a clean hit, when his bestie rat just threw a headshot a little while prior.

    Experience Bruins Hockey.

  11. LilNTheBasedGod

Pretty hard to hear the broadcast tonight since they were deep throating the entire city of Boston for 60 minutes

  12. theketchupthief

I cannot stand Marchand but with that being said, every good team needs a piece of shit like him. I’d love him if if he was on my team.

If the Caps are bad again next year, make a run at Tom Wilson for the deadline.

  13. crazyjorge1

Did anyone catch at the start of the 3rd period that is said under the score finel 2 to 1

  14. danamerr

So sick and tired of Boston getting away with these weak boring as fuck wins. Jesus, thats some boring as shit hockey they play there

  15. We gotta keep Meier off the third. Wanna see him more with Hughes and bratt

  16. Mr7three2

I’m in the vast minority… but the Marchand hit wasn’t that bad. Certainly less dirty than anything Trouba has thrown all year.

  17. gleeson630

I don’t know what to do now for the night lol. That game unleashed almost every single of my worst New Jersey devils phobias and traumas.

We wanted to win for sure, you could tell. But we leaned into that as a playoff game and got overwhelmed by them taking away our passing lanes. I hope that is a good lesson and not a hindrance.

Mercers in zone pass with empty net was horrible. I think he could have just gone to the net and maybe something good happens. Optimally we score earlier when it’s not so hard…gotta come prepared for these games.

  18. RakimWebster

Boston is sooo good man. They didn’t give New Jersey anything tonight. Powerplay, empty net, they were all over us. Devils didn’t even play bad, they’re that good.

  19. MountainBaker8217

I didn’t expect a win going into this game, but I still wanted to be pleasantly surprised:

    * I didn’t catch the first, so can’t comment on anything that actually led to goals, but I will say Mackenzie Blackwood kept us in this game and made it possible for us to tie it up.
    * We did not tie it up because we did not come up with any good way to solve Ullmark.
    * That was also because Boston well and truly had our number. We couldn’t do our passes, they took advantage of every single turnover and failed zone exit, and they stomped us in the neutral zone.
    * I did not count many high danger changes for us, so the fact that it was a one goal game for most of the game, you have to hand it to Blackwood. But I will say, from what I watched, Boston’s chances didn’t seem too high danger either.
    * I think if we figured out Ullmark and were playing with a bit more urgency, desperation, energy, passion, we could have tied it up. Jack was everywhere. It just felt like we were maybe one or two degrees off of where we needed to be the entire game. No sustained pressure, but that isn’t all our fault, Boston’s just good.
    * Haula is an important part of this team, and without him we really didn’t play four lines, we played two.
    * I hope McLeod is okay. He’s not my favorite player, but he’s going to be very important to us come the playoffs. Faceoff wins can make or break games, and his expertise is going to be needed.
    * Boston and the best PK in the league, but our PP tonight was not it.
    * I feel like every single time we play a game where we have the chance to either tie first place or take first place, we never rise to the occasion.
    * I still think this game was better than that game against the Jets that we don’t speak of anymore.
    * On a positive note, Jack has tied Patty’s record, and we have two more games to play and he is four points away from getting to 100. Totally fucking doable.
    * Looking at the big picture, Rags play Buffalo and Toronto next, and I think Buffalo still haven’t been technically eliminated from playoff contention, and Toronto is Toronto, so the Rags are not guaranteed any wins there. Carolina is playing Ottawa, Detroit, and the Panthers. The Panthers will most likely still be fighting for a wildcard spot, so that’ll be a difficult game for Carolina, but Ottawa and Detroit could be a tossup.
    * So lets control our own destiny at the very least and win out the rest of the season. Beat the Devils single season wins record.
    * Oh and these fuckers better stay the fuck away from Nico. I will use my fists AND my legs.

  20. This_Cable_5849

We tried to be too pretty tonight. A few 2-1 where we didn’t even get a shot off because we tried to pass.

Solid game. Was there, and there were a bunch of proud devils fans

  21. gmen8687

Our future is so bright. In 2-3 years we will be so special. Have to keep Bratt and Timo around.

  22. Ozzykamikaze

Crushing a scumbag Bruin? I’m changing my flair to Meier.

  23. Grizz709

Bad 10 mins for Blackwood at the beginning of the 1st, but anyone watching would know there were way too many giveaways and odd man rushes.

The loss is mostly from a defensive lapse. My guess Lindy may want to address teams who come out fast and aggressive, slow the game a little bit to kill the momentum and push later, maybe? Hard to say this late in the season though.

  24. dadphobia

Just hope Mikey’s ok. Would be a devastating loss for the playoffs

  25. MountainBean3479

Semi unrelated but just watched the full video the devils released of Quinn’s signing thing and the super hughes bros are so cute!

Quinn calling jack Brodie. Jack talking about him calling him “kid” multiple times. Jack being his witness. Luke accidentally writing his number on his contract and Fitzy crossing it out lmao

Eta : yes I realize I said Quinn we were explaining to a non hockey friend about the three brothers as I wrote this and I have imbibed and consumed several substances 🤦🏾‍♀️ 🤷‍♀️ I obvi meant Luke

  26. MrMooMoo91

Their PP was big. On to the next game and clinch home. ice.

  27. chickenKsadilla

I can’t wait for Zacha to come crashing back to earth so the Boston fans can shut the fuck up about him to us already. Overpaid an average player but they’re too busy stroking themselves to notice.

  28. Devil_Dane

PSA: If any *concerned fans* of the opposition send you a Reddit Cares (depression / suicide / don’t kill yourself) message tonight, you can block the RedditCares account and report abuse of the system.

  29. dan_0042

Blackwood recovered and played a great game, I thought our defense was good.
Zacha and Marchand are annoying… kinda funny that Hischier had Pastrnak so upset after his empty net goal didn’t get counted

What can I say. It’s Boston. Onto the next–let’s close the season with 52 hopefully.

  30. chickenKsadilla

I’ve gotten sucked into a lot of negativity tonight so I’ll just end with this: I love the New Jersey Devils and I can’t wait to watch playoff hockey.

  31. dadphobia

Said it in the game thread, copying here.

Very clear that Toronto decided Boston needed to tie the record against the devils in what is basically a clash of the titans, and round one needed to have the hugely revenue-generating devils v. rangers.

Refs very obviously swallowed their whistles in the last few minutes. Interference, roughing, charging, illegal hit to the head, boarding, slashing, all in the final minutes and all by one team.

Yet the absolute softest interference call against the devils in the first minute of the game.

I’m so tired of this league’s officiating. Is it such a crazy idea to just call the game by the playbook?

  32. -PoeticJustice-

Was at the game. Well played. Cant complain about much, Boston is a good team with 2023 vezina winner

  33. HopelessEsq

Something that was pretty cool, my gf is from China and her family is all in Beijing. Her dad there occasionally gets hockey broadcasts on TV and watches them since he knows we’re such big hockey fans. Tonight he was so excited to find that the Devils game was broadcasted in Beijing and got to watch the game with us! The Chinese translation for the team was the NJ Monster lol. We’ve gone international, boys! That’s pretty cool.

  34. Devils played really good tonight against the best team in the league but it was like after Bratt scored we couldn’t get anything after that? It just hurts that Zacha was the one to get 2 lucky goals🤦🏾‍♂️

  35. stacez15

Can someone better than me secure a gif or something of Bahl laying the wood on Bergeron at the blue line? Cause that shit was awesome

  36. Regentraven

Called a Bruns flair a fucking troglodyte in one comment, got banned from /r/hockey.

Asked the mods if it was an excessive personal attack or slur, got mod muted with no reply lol

  37. FormerCollegeDJ

Disappointing result, but it was a pretty entertaining game tonight. The Devils had many good scoring chances against a strong defensive team. They just need to cut down on the good chances they gave the Bruins on the other end.

  38. How do you just finish that game and not go apeshit on Brad Marchand instead? We will regret losing McLeod for nothing.
