What Does the Nashville Predators “New Era” Under Barry Trotz Mean for John Hynes? | NHL Podcast

The Nashville Predators announced over the weekend that GM David Poile would be retiring after this season and that former Predators head coach Barry Trotz will take over the reins as General Manager July 1. Yesterday we heard from both David Poile and Barry Trotz and today we talk about the timeline of Poile’s retirement, how involved Barry Trotz has been in trade conversations regarding Nino Niederreiter and Tanner Jeannot, and what the change in leadership may mean for current head coach John Hynes.

The Predators held a press conference yesterday with David Poile and Barry Trotz to share more details about the upcoming general manager transition. On today’s Locked On Predators, we’ll talk about the highlights of those conversations. What made David Poile choose to retire now and what was the timetable for his decision? The outgoing GM shares what his big priority has been as he transitions out of the GM role and into a more advisory capacity with the franchise. One of the biggest questions after this news was announced was what this change means for head coach John Hynes. We’ll tell you what Barry Trotz had to say about John Hynes’ performance behind the bench so far and what his coaching future may look like in Nashville. We’ll also tell you which young players Trotz mentioned by name as he looks ahead. With Nashville wheeling and dealing before the trade deadline, we take a closer look at goaltender Juuse Saros’ position with the team. What are the chances Nashville entertains offers for the Finnish net minder and would any return be worth losing one of Nashville’s best players?

  1. Man I swear we gave this dude chances and guess what he didn’t live up. We were a finge wildcard team last year and we are one now. If your going to change the GM, there no point in keeping a coach that ain’t really innovative or inspiring.

  2. It’s time to get John Haynes out of there. If you’re changing to Barry Trotz, let him bring in his own guy. I’m trying to get mostly everything David Poile got his hands on out of there besides Josi and Forsberg. Everyone else can hit the highway.
