Ummm I don't think the caps are anywhere near to being the oldest team in the nhl
They basically drafted Sandin with that first and skipped the part where he develops in the minors. Good deal imo if you look at it that way.
This was a great deal and we did end up getting younger! Sandin is only 22 and is extremely productive given he has been primarily used on the 3rd line w/Toronto. Essentially, we used that draft pick (throwing in a rental D with Gus) to get a proven YOUNG D man that is cheap and will be with us at least 2 years. Sucks to lose Gus..but this is a big W for the Caps.
