Maybe Anderson (M-NTC @4yrs)-1st for 3rd & Dubois. Issue is Anderson NTC, if he doesn't agree, if Habs are able to flipping to another he's willing to go, for another roster player to help Jets back end, Jets has Perfetti for center, I think a top 4 defense and depth center can help the Jets, with Ehlers, Morrissey, Connor and Hellebuyck lock up and Wheeler salary off the books, I think Jets can change their culture within with good hockey trade. Scheifele can also attract important pieces to fill out the roster. For years, the Jets are too good on paper to have the years they been having, moving 3 pieces out to dictate the attitude you want in, will do wonders. As for the Habs the extra money save on the Andrerson's trade will help to lock Dubois long term and maybe get Drouin on cheaper contract. The trade would have potential of helping both teams.
Winnipeg would be better to keep PLD for the next 2 seasons if Montreal does not want to give a fair return. To say they can't trade him to another team for a good return is nonsense. If a team is looking for a player to add they would get two playoffs out of him. Islander gave up 1st and a good prospect with no contract guarantee. What if PLD wants 10 million for 8 years. Would Montreal still want him? What is an unrestricted free agent (UFA)?
A player becomes a free agent when their contract expires on July 1 after the last League Year of their contract. Any player who meets the following requirements becomes an unrestricted free agent (UFA):
Is 27 years of age on June 30 of the contract expiry year
Has seven (7) Accrued Seasons where an Accrued Season is earned when the player was on the clubs active roster for 40 Regular Season games (30 if the player is a goaltender). Games missed due to a hockey related injury will count towards an accrued season in the season of the injury, plus one additional season after the injury.
Meets the requirements for Group 6 UFA Status (See below)
An unrestricted free agent is eligible to sign a contract with any club as of noon ET on July 1 after the last League Year of their contract

The only reason people think that Montreal wants to trade for Dubois, is because Dubois has openly spoke about wanting to play for the Canadiens. This has never been about Montreal being interested in acquiring Dubois. The only side that is interested in trading Dubois is Winnipeg, because they are hoping to get at least a little something in return. There is no way in hell that Montreal is going to give up anything significant to get Dubois. END OF STORY!
For the junior team to give up so much to get Wright, only to be swept in the first round… It confirms to me that Montreal was right in drafting Slafkovsky instead.

PLD would be good for the Habs, he could do really well playing with Caufield IMHO—altho the Senators didn't make the playoffs, they had a good season, vastly improved over the previous year, and will only get better next season and make the playoffs–same with the Sabres ,vastly improved over the previous year, and will be better next year, with Levi as the goalie of the future. Rather disappointing season for Shane Wright overall, but he may still end up being a decent NHL player, altho not likely to be the superstar the Kraken projected. Luke Hughes may turn out to be as good as his brother, we will see. Sadly, Cam Talbot didn't work out for the Senators, and It's unlikely he returns for next season. Why would the Habs send a 1st in a super strong draft year plus a prospect for a guy who could be had for free in a year that the Habs won't be ready to win and need to keep cap open to resign CC and so forth? The only thing I see happening trade wise would be giving Winnipeg something to incentivize taking money back to even it out, but I can't see a 1st being a piece in that to make it happen. Jets have no leverage. If we assume the talk is all accurate, he wants to go to Montreal, he won't resign, and no one else will want to part with much to take him on as a strict rental for season or playoffs next season. This is a long game and I'm not even convinced that paying this guy market value as a UFA even makes sense for Habs as they rebuild.

Why giving something good for Dubois when he will be free one year away? If he really wants to play in Montréal, he will wait for his UFA year and won’t sign anywhere even if he is traded.
