Filip Gustavsson Ended the Game 1 Starter Debate after his Performance against Colorado!

On today’s episode of Locked on Wild, we end the goalie debate with the claim that Filip Gustavsson’s performance against Colorado was the final audition needed to give him the Game 1 start. We look at his numbers against a variety of opponents, and why his calm demeanor can help tremendously when the playoff tension ramps up. We also look at how Sam Steel and Freddy Gaudreau helped lead the Wild over the Avalanche. For Steel, we look at his ability to provide depth on all 4 lines, and his tendency to be more effective in small doses such as filling a line opening due to injury. We also look at the remarkable consistency that Freddy Gaudreau provides and how he has settled in as the 3rd line center after playing higher in the lineup earlier in the year.

  1. I like gus. And he's played great…but that was not a goaltending win… the wild outplayed the avs. The shut it down defensively in the 3rd. Gus should start the playoffs. But he didn't win this game😊

  2. What’s your thoughts on the Aves having a play sound when their player is out of the penalty box? I always forget they do that and honestly surprised it’s allowed. It seems like an advantage that Aves players could use. In the game yesterday, the TNT announcers were giving a lot of praise to the pass, but if they heard that play sound they would know just to flick the puck past the defense and their guy would be open.

  3. I’d say with Fleury’s last game in Seattle he still had a case but when you combine this Colorado game with the New Jersey game for Gus then it’s game over. Love Fleury still and I’d be super confident if problems arise and he needs to step up but 1st crack at it has to be Gus.

  4. Also fans should shut up about Klingberg for a few games and just watch him on offense, he flows into the zone so easily and creates breakouts single handedly at a ridiculously consistent basis. There are obviously mistakes, especially when he’s with Merrill, but I think they are very outweighed by his ability to get the puck moving up the ice and then for the most part being fantastic with it in the O-zone. Just watch the Steel goal against Colorado and that was created by Klingberg walking through the zone and creating chaos by throwing the puck at the net from a weird angle. He makes it look so effortless sometimes and has the most dangerous shot on our blue line now.

  5. Steel seems like a player who may have had too much thrown at him. He played well on the first line for 15 games then faltered. He couldn’t run at a high clip over an extended period. That’s ok, everyone is different and as mentioned, can be a valuable filler as he stays in game ready shape and was a former #1 for a reason.
I do agree with one of your followers, when is someone going to add the sound element to their rinks when your team jumps out of the box. In colorado, they add the sound to let their players know it’s back to full strength and can be a huge advantage. They are the only rink that does this and it seems no one cares.
As for Freddy, you win cups with a few of these guys in the lineup. Just a solid, steady player who any club would plug in on a daily basis.

  6. Gus for sure. Fleury is too erratic and inconsistent. If he man's the net in playoffs, he will tank the team for sure. I said it
