You know it's personal when a player gets multiple embellishment penalties.
No matter how blatant the dive or how well known the player is for being "over-dramatic" refs almost never call embellishment penalties.
Childish behavior, Toronto deserves better.

Anyone, in any league knows… if your a pain in the ass to deal with (for the refs) your not going to get any help. Save your jerkiness for the opposition not the stripes and you won't have near the problems.

Maybe he deserves the penalties… He is labelled by leaf fans as an agitator. Well if the guy is spitting on sticks and cross checking, tripping. Then he should be penalized for it. Generally I think the refs need to call more not less. They let players get away with too much.

I've never seen a more tame player get so much heat. He doesn't cross the line physically….. it's hard to see from a fans perspective wtf he's doing to draw so much attention. Betting on the league should be suspended, pending an investigation into the officiating. The Legality of Sports Betting hinges on unbiased, professional officiating. Millions of dollars are bet on the outcomes of these games. Heck, Ontario banned betting on UFC events, so the precedent has been set in their own backyard.

NHL HQ needs to reign in their refs. Last night there was the most idiotic call on Ottawa – delay of game when it was the Canes that hit the puck out of play. The whole 'we can review some things but not others' is dumb. Either you can challenge calls or not but when the jumbotron shows your obvious call mistake before play even resumes, just make the correction FFS, it's not rocket appliances
the problem with the officials is that they use their OWN judgement, they don't follow the rules as they are meant to be. they do this and get away with it because there are no reprecussions , no punishment for being a brainless assclown. when there are consequences to their actions they will start doing things right. the boys on the ice need to start teaching those useless morons a lesson. that's the only way it will get better.

Thereās ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with a ref pushing a player off the ice. As a ref for 15 years how exactly are we supposed to break up fights if weāre not allowed to touch players? How am I supposed to get someone off the ice? Why are we even there? Am I supposed to Jedi mind trick a guy into not pummeling his opponent? Just say please? What alternative would you offer?
And yes the referee talk about players. Particularly the ones who are pains in the ass. I hate to break it to ya, every single possible occupation talks shit about the people they deal with. If youāre the asshole at the local grocery store, the employees talk shit about you and treat you differently. If youāre the asshole at the local bank, the tellers talk shit about you and treat you differently. Not sure why youād expect this occupation to be any different just bc bunting is overpaidā¦.

Bunting brings a lot of it on himself, but even now that's he's toned it down he's still "paying a debt" which is BS imo.
Bunting gets what he deserves. He is not Marchand, he floops and acts like a whiney baby not a pest. The amount of times he gets called for embellishment is completely called for. The guy will piss someone off and then flop when hit. You dont need to flop to get a call. Guy has no care that he's putting his team is a bad position because his ego is too high. Typical new age hockey player, cry baby who flops. My 30 yo beer league team who no one played junior go out against kids 10 years younger and they cant stay on their skates. They cry about every call and the refs laugh at them, this is the new culture. The sport is turning into soccer because of this call everything mentality peopel have.
The leafs habs game on Saturday should have had no powerplays, all the calls though technically correct, were completely pointless to be called. MAYBE the one hook against marner…maybe, but all the others had no impact on the game.
I'm calling it now that Bunting is going to do something that costs the leafs moving on to the 2nd round.
