The Byng is basically the award for “this player is really good and doesn’t take penalties.”
>The Lady Byng Memorial Trophy is an annual award given “to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.” The winner is selected in a poll of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association at the end of the regular season; each voter ranks his top five candidates on a 10-7-5-3-1 points system. Three finalists are named and the trophy is presented at the NHL Awards after the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

That one penalty was hilarious, too. Innocuous stick lift and the stick went flying 10 feet in the air.
Honestly, it’s a solid argument. Beniers has proven to be more than just an A-Tier talent, he’s a smart, likeable player who handles himself well both on and off the ice.
I agree, he’s been a paragon of sportsmanship this season!!!
But he shushhhed* the Coyotes bench!!!

*I know that’s not what he was doing.
I mean, he stepped in to be the freaking Easter Bunny. How could you NOT vote for him?
While I agree that he should be considered, it’s not common for rookies to be selected. It’s kind of accepted that rookies have the Calder and nothing else.
