[Masters] Keefe on Matthew Knies: “The pace didn’t faze him at all. His feet were moving. He made some smart plays with the puck. There were a couple of mistakes out there, but I think some mistakes are good. You can learn thru that & adjust, which I thought he did. He did a nice job.”

    Ilya Samsonov on Matthew Knies:

“Not easy for him today especially for Florida game. It’s not easy to start but he’s looking good. He’s fighting on the board. I like how he play. He’s so nice.”

    Auston Matthews on Matthew Knies:

“He fit in really well. You can just see his size & strength out there & he made plays. It’s not easy to jump into an NHL game right away especially a game like tonight where they have a lot on the line … so he looked really good.”

Matthew Knies on going from college to NHL:

“It’s a pretty big step. Guys are a lot heavier, a lot faster, you know, it’s a pretty big adjustment. The more games I get under me I think the more I can get adjusted to the speed & my awareness would get a little bit better.”

He looked not ready. I know this will be disagreed with but idc.

  3. He hadn’t even practiced. I’d play him the other two games and see how he looks. Then keep him practicing as an extra.

You could see some promising things right away. High compete level, confidence, some creativity and ability to play in small spaces, and his skating didn’t look way out of place. I don’t know if he will be able to offer much for the playoffs, but I think you can see what could make him an impactful player in a couple of years.

I think there were a couple of moments where he didn’t really know where to go/what to do in the defensive zone. He’ll need to learn the system a bit better, just more time in practice with the team will probably fix most of the mistakes he made.

Knies was fantastic out there, I don’t know if people saying otherwise actually watch the game.

He made a couple mistakes exiting the zone which is to be expected. Learn from it and move on.

His board play and ability to protect the back was better than some of our current bottom six. He’s a big body who didn’t look out of place. I’m over this old school “real gud pro” experience/veteran mentality. It hasn’t helped us in the past and it isn’t indicative of the current NHL. The training players have today is unmatched and a good hockey player is a good hockey player. If he can help our line up you play him.
