Don’t Give Up On Slafkovsky..

OK Guys, it’s time to have a chat about Juraj Slafkovsky. Slaf was on the ice yesterday at practice for the first time since his injury, which was a good sight for fans of the Montreal Canadiens. Also, in today’s video I’m going to compare his numbers to some other big 18 year old rookies that were expected to come out of the gate running in the NHL!

The articles that were in the video were screenshots from Habsfanatics.com, I highly reccommend you to check out this site for further Habs News,

Let me know whatcha think of this one down in the comment section!

  1. He is going to be a clutch player. I see Logan Cooley as being a higher goal scorers, but Slafkovsky is going to be a difference maker when it counts.

  2. MTL are so bad at selling young guys at the right time. Remember what was said of Primeau?! They all wanted a piece of him 3 years ago. He had value, he was attractive and was seen as the top goalie prospect. Now that time has passed, GMs around the league knows exactly what he is, and nobody is interested, unless he comes very cheap. What MTL could’ve yield if they had the balls to sell at the right time, we’ll never know, but it would’ve been good! Primeau is just one of many exemples of this in MTL… it’s like they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing in “building the future”, and they’re about to make that same mistake with Slaf

  3. he's fine but I do think he should have played with the rocket rather than going straight to the NHL

  4. Slaf has shown signs of being an absolute beast. I remember watching a multitude of games this season where Slaf would just go out and have a shift where he’s the best player on the ice. He sets up scoring chances in a way that no one else on the Canadians does. The offensive production will come once he’s actually given half decent teammates

  5. Who cares?? Habs are a dead end team and will be for years to come. And I've been a Habs fan for years but the truth is the truth.

  6. Slaf is not a "bust". The one thing I've noticed about his development is his intelligence. This kid is adapting to the NHL by trying to be at the right place at the right time. He knows he doesn't have Caufield/Mesar acceleration but he can support their attack mode. He seemed to be working on his defensive skills. We forget to figure out how difficult it is to succeed in the NHL and be good with and without the puck. Bob Gainey was not a "scorer" but he still made it to the HOF. He's still learning the game and I have no expectations of seeing him as a scorer but I see him as possibly a complete 2 way player that can succeed here. What I saw from him was a kid who is trying to learn and adapt to the pro game and I can be patient. I do not expect to see him carrying the team but I like the effort he has put into becoming a better player. He improved this year so hopefully the kid keeps it up.

  7. Look at Tage Thompson's rookie year with st. Louis nearly identical stats. Give him time.

*Edit I just found out Slafs has more points in less games than Tage had and oh yeah Tage was 19 when he was a rookie, 9 points in 41 games for Tage and Slafs had 10 points in 39 games and he's still only 18.

  8. Honestly, is it actually A THING?
I mean, are there fans of this team seriously saying that he is a bust? In public?
    YEeeeSshh!
If so, it's the kind of people who will actively try reach the lowest of depth only to find a way to be negative. Ugh.

  9. I could not lose hope, because I forgot he existed. Thanks for the reminder! We have a lot in the pipeline. I can't look right now though, because I have been too busy smashing Leafs paraphernalia over at Chris Wideman's place!!

  10. You didn't even mention that Slaffy was playing on a crap team with struggling line mates most of the season before he was injured..

If the Habs give him better line mates and more PP time next season, I expect him (Baring injuries. Because that's become the new normal in Montreal) to hit between 30-40 points next season. We're looking at 12-15 goals as a 19 year old. No, I don't expect him to become the next Connor McDavid. He doesn't seem to posses that same raw talent. But he's got talent and once he gets accustomed to his size, he's going to be a lot better than now.

If the guy becomes a solid 30 goal, 70pts player and use his size, I'll be very happy. Not every draft has guys who can break the 100pts mark. You can build a team around a bunch of guys scoring 30 goals. You don't just need 2 guys scoring 50 and the rest 7.

BTW for anyone who's not keeping track, Shane Wrights Spitfires were swept in the first round of the OHL playoffs. He had 3 points in 4 games. I can still remember how the majority of fans were disappointed and/or shocked when the Habs passed him over. The last draft was not great. So don't ask too much from this draft class. They might all slowly turn into fantastic hockey players but keep your expectations low.

Rohrer has 6 points in the first round of the OHL playoffs for anyone who cares. He was the best Habs prospect in the OHL playoffs. Mailloux has 5 points, Beck has 3, and Mesar has a goal from recollection.

  11. A very young 18 when he was drafted. MSL will work his magic with Slaf and the other young forwards. I can’t wait to see Slafkovsky unleash that shot of his more next season!

  12. He is going to be a beast, let him adapt to the NA NHL playstyle and grow a beard. Juraj gonna be solid for MTL. I beleive that if he plays with players of talent on regular basis on his line we will see it next season why he is best slovak player ever.
