After a two-day break over the weekend, the Pittsburgh Penguins returned to the ice for a matchup with big playoff implications against the Chicago Blackhawks. The first period of play was scoreless on both sides but the Blackhawks would strike first in the second. Trailing 1-0 heading into the final intermission, the Penguins had to battle back. Evgeni Malkin was able to tie things up with his 27th goal of the season but Chicago would answer back with two of their own to go up 3-1. Pittsburgh emptied their net in hopes of a last minute comeback but would ultimately fall to Chicago by a score 5-2.

Brutal.
What should've been a huge landslide win for us was an exhibition of lack of urgency despite needing every point possible. I try to stay optimistic even after a loss but when your teams chance at making the playoffs is controlled now by the Islanders all I can really do is curse. Of all the games they played, they have to lose to a team whos current dream isnt the cup but rather the lottery. Inexcusable loss that more than likely has ended the Penguins season and their 16 consecutive playoff streak. The only other way we get even a glimmer at the playoffs is if the Islanders lose in regulation against another lottery team; the Canadiens. If they manage even a point, it won't matter as we lose the tiebreaker. All we can do now is hope.

Well it is strange my first year as pens fan since 08 season but if your true fan would stay for next season a and beyond I am forever grateful for the memories 3 cup wins 4 cup finals 5 eastern conference finals back to back runs Outdoor games winter classics had a new one this year and stadium series games can’t forget about those as I said strange first time no playoffs but it had happen again eventually miss play lords and lose seasons the yinzers may leave but I am staying as I said if true will buy tickets and stuff and go to games to prevent the team moving you will stay we had a good run playoffs streak 2007 2022

Fecking hit someone. We should have been tempting penalties all night breaking them down with borderline hits meanwhile 4 feckers wankstaining around while AA walks in and plinks it in. I love this team but you knobs had me screaming in anger most of this game

Don't like to single out a particular play(er), but Jarry should've just posted up after the initial save and not stand up facing the trapezoid allowing for the second goal. Poor decision making imo. Saw hustle and urgency but playing like this is a quick way out of playoffs even if they make it in.

Thought they'd get 2 out of 3 max with Detroit being the toughest, so that win gave me false hope. Should've known better. Not sure why they didn't run the same lines. What a year; losing nearly half of the games. Time with a healthy Crosby wasted. WBS at the bottom of their Division. Don't know for Wheeling.
Penguins came out and skated through mud the first 40 minutes, showed urgency tied it up and went right back to skating through mud the rest of the game, even jarry skated through mud on that 3rd goal looking like an 11 year old getting lost in his own net.

OK, HOW DID WE LOSE!!! FLORIDA AND NYI BOTH GAVE US AN OPEN DOOR FOR US TO EASILY CLAIM A WILD CARD, AND YKNOW WHAT WE DO? WE BLEW ALL OF THAT. AT THIS POINT, PENS DESERVE TO BREAK THAT LONGEST ACTIVE STREAK! FIRE HEXTALL, AND DELETE BASICALLY THE WHOLE TEAM! (ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS)
The Islanders and Blue Jackets better win. This team does not deserve to even sniff the playoffs after this pathetic display.
It's not completely over yet but I'm uncertain that the team actually wants to advance.

They wouldn't advance with these goalies anyway. What happen to them? Desmith & Jarry seemed much better last yr.

The fact that Mrazek was made to look like a vezina caliber goalie is the sign that pens aren't playoff caliber this year.
This game was indicative of the Penguins gameplay all year. At first my reaction was of anger and disgust because of this embarrassing loss….but looking at it further…they got exactly what they deserve. The window was left open and you can't beat the worst team in the league at home? You simply do NOT deserve a playoff position. Not to mention the horrendously uninspired effort. No passion to win. Absolutely no excuse for this loss. Time to clean house.
Again, and again, and AGAIN I say it. NO DEFENSE. All this team had to do was win the next 2 games. To go out 1 and done again. From the front office, the Coaches, and PLAYERS don't deserve the playoffs. This team needs revamped. Period. But this is what the fans get. They signed Crosby, Malkin, and LeTang to contracts that will end their careers in Pittsburgh. Great. Awesome. NOW, we as fans, have to pay the piper. The Pens have NO money to get a Kessel or a Schultz, or a Daley. And Sully is no longer the "Alpha male" in the locker room. He got too close to the players. Which seems to happen in Pittsburgh.
Why is the announcer saying the columbus game simultaneously together is so important. Only for position for florida maybe nothing for Pittsburgh.
