The New York Rangers tied a team record for most goals in a first period with six, and Jaroslav Halak made 22 saves for his first shutout in more than two years in a 7-0 win against the Nashville Predators at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

Halak’s last shutout came on March 11, 2021, when he made 27 saves against the Rangers as a member of the Boston Bruins.

K’Andre Miller became the first defenseman in Rangers’ history to get four points (two goals, two assists) in a single period, Artemi Panarin had a goal and two assists, and Mika Zibanejad had a goal and an assist for New York (41-19-10), which has won four games in a row and six of seven (6-0-1), including a 6-0 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.

Kevin Lankinen allowed four goals on five shots before being relieved 9:09 into the first by Juuse Saros, who allowed goals on the first two shots and finished with 26 saves for Nashville (34-26-8), which has lost three in a row (0-2-1), including a 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.

The Predators played without defenseman Roman Josi, who is day to day with an upper-body injury, for the first time this season.

The Rangers scored the six goals on six straight shots. The last time they scored six in the first period was Dec. 15, 1999, against the Los Angeles Kings.

Filip Chytil scored his first goal in 19 games to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 2:37 of the first.

Zibanejad scored on a one-timer from below the left face-off circle at 7:22 to make it 2-0.

Tyler Motte made it 3-0 with a one-timer from the right circle at 8:14, and Miller scored during a 4-on-4 off a 2-on-1 to give New York a 4-0 lead at 9:09.

Panarin made it 5-0 during a 4-on-3 from the top of the left circle at 10:01, and Miller scored from the right point to extend the lead to 6-0 at 13:36.

Chris Kreider scored off a rebound to make it 7-0 at 9:02 of the second period.

The Rangers have scored 15 unanswered goals since the third period of their 4-2 win against the Penguins on Thursday.

  1. I got a new rangers sweatshirt. It’s 4-0 with a 22:4 GFxGA. I will be like every girl who’s ever come back to my place. The shirt will not be coming off.

  2. People keep mentioning 13 goals. How about mentioning all we needed was 2 goals because we got B2B shutouts. Not only is our offense insane, our goalies are playing fantastic

  3. The boys are buzzin! Granted Preds were missing important players but this was still an amazing effort, gotta love it. Back to back shutouts and 15 consecutive goals, a franchise record. Plus, Key broke a franchise record for most points in a period by a d-man. LGR!!!

  4. as a preds fan this killed me inside but im glad it made other fans happy it's about the only good thing i can use as motivation

  5. Of course it's great to see them scoring and dominating the opponent, but in this game they were playing a team who was missing all of their core pieces except for Saros. Lots of young guys and AHL players. The true test is ahead this week when we play the Hurricanes twice and the Panthers who have been showing signs of life during the last couple of weeks. Let's go boys!

  6. Hey man, friendly devils fan here. I subscribed to your channel and like watching your reactions. Looking forward to a great playoff series this year and a rejuvenated rivalry for years to come. You guys definitely have a team that can win it all this year but I think we have a young team that will compete for the cup for the next 6-8 years. Will be fun for the ny-nj areas.
