Bryan Hayes, Jeff O’Neill and Jamie McLennan are joined by TSN Hockey analyst Mike Johnson to discuss the Flames missing the playoffs and how can the team and individual players bounce back next season.
Move the Flames out of CGY. That's how they can rebound.
Or you can just run it back next year, with a different coach, etc. and still get the same results, middle of the pack team.
Organization has been in need of a HARD teardown for probably close to two decades now, if not longer. Been so long Saddledome is literally falling apart. Owner clearly doesn't give af, just wants to fill seats, apparently he didn't even show up for the 300mil the city was going to give him.
NHL needs to intervene and give them a deadline to have a new arena built for the players, or the team gets moved somewhere else.
The gm because he's been there for almost 10 years and what has he achieved? He's made a lot of questionable moves.
The coach because his philosophy is outdated. The NHL nowadays is all about speed, offense, scoring. Sutter likes to play tight checking, defensive hockey.
The reason with guys like Huberdeau and Kadri regressed so massively is entirely because of Sutter's system. Florida and Colorado in 21-22 were all about speed, run and gun.
But lastly, the team is missing pieces up front and in net. Mangiapane, Dube, Backlund are solid players, but I don't think you can rely on them in your top 6. You need some more proven goal scorers. Coleman, I don't know how he got that contract? The guy skates like he has cinderblocks attached to his skates. Markstrom, it was always a mistake giving him that contract and now he's getting older and regressing.
They replaced two 100 point player with two 50 point players… this is the result. Sutter has to go, hopefully Huberdeau can rebound. If not, you might as well begin the rebuilt, you can't be competitive paying 10.5 mil to a 50 point guy.
Perfect example of panthers selling a bag of white beach sand to a flames team looking to get high. Huby is not going to get 100 pts. Florida knew it and flames simply don’t know him well enough unfortunately. There has been couple video made by fans who knows him well regarding this. There was one that even warned the flames fan what to expect from him, and this was exactly it.
imo markstrom hasn't done as bad as ppl say most of the time we give the other team high percentage shots not really helping are tendy's, saying that by no means was it a good season for anyone just a disappointment all in all. I blame the whole team, just a sad season they need to play better!

Mike, whipping Jonathan Huberdeau, because he is not going to dump and race into the zone to drive a D man off the puck, is just one of the dumbest things I have seen at the pro level since John Brophy. He is not Matthew Tkachuk. Sutter wants players to play his game, sorry that doesn't work at any level. You put together lines and systems that allow your people to excel or at least compete. Sutter owns this year cause like Babcock, his head is stuck in his own crap.
Sutter has to and will be gone and these players will be different people. Who wants to play for a scowling, critical, guy who wants to talk about the team he HAD, and how great they were? You guys are talking BS, Sutter is gone.
The flames are in more of a mess then the canucks. Question marks at coach and gm and they have alot of long term contrqcts they cant ditch. It is ugly my thoughts are get a new coach make few changes and try again.
Some actual logical talk about Calgary. Thank you. Sutter is a good coach and this is 95% on the players – not the GM or the coach. Ritchie in the shoot-out isn't even a topic of discussion. Calgary sucked in every shoot-out and they should have been in the play-offs two months ago. Kadri and Hubredeau need to find some self-respect in the off-season and actually show up and perform like the paid professionals they are. Period. If that happens, things are fine in Calgary next season.
Other than Toffoli everyone had down years. Some market correction expected but if we win even half of those OT games we'd easily be in a playoff spot. Need a leader to bring everyone together.
Sutter's probably saying thank God the season is over. He looked dumbfounded in half his interviews this season. Wondering why his can do no wrong brilliant mind and game plans were not working. Never blaming himself for any hiccups, mishaps or flat out line up errors and bad on ice decisions. For the last several weeks Sutter was thinking more about driving his tractor this spring than driving his team into the playoffs. Fact is Sutter was out coached by pretty much every coach in the league this season. Sutter should let that sink in while he stubbornly insists on playing the Sutter system with players that can't stand the Sutter system. The conversation between the GM and Sutter in the coming days or weeks should be fairly quick. GM: "Darryl you going to change the system?" Sutter: "Nope". GM: "Ok…good talk".
Not sure you can use Markstrom as an excuse for the Flames. Campbell, Quick, Peterson, Jones, Grubaeur, etc have been a mess in the Pacific and those teams still made the playoffs.
For a team who had a few weeks to figure out what to do when their top two players take off and they still put a competitive team with a winning record. This segment is a joke, and just watch this team next year now that they got a year of experience and chemistry built up.

Huberdeau is a point per game in LW and Sutter plays him on the right 80% of the time LOL
