I mean pretty big fucking difference from then compared to now. Back then we were just complete and utter shit without much excuse. Even though we are not fantastic nowadays, missing so many players because of injuries and whatnot is a pretty good excuse. I feel like if this was a normal season we would be behind the Penguins compared to where we are now.

I would say so. Regardless of the standings, we are not the worst team in the NHL. We have a bright future, and I think the average fan feels that we are doing a good job rebuilding.
That being said, next season has to look much different. I think we all expect an improved team, likely with a new coach. If not, I think we should all be rightly concerned.
