Hate the Blackhawks because they are “our” rivals but 3 of their best players from those Cup winning teams have had abrupt/unfortunate endings to their careers between Hossa, Crawford and now Toews.

I guess 4 if you count Byfuglien too …

Hopefully he will retire then. Wouldn’t want to see him in any other jersey

Not a Blackhawks fan but I live in Chicago so I still go to games for fun. It’s sad to see the massive turnover and all the familiar names leaving the team — hoping they have a good offseason and can rebuild effectively faster than some other Chicago sports teams (looking at you, Bears).

Seen alot of opinions on this and the Hawks and I have my own…

Tazer was the best 2 way center in the game for the better part of a decade. That includes Patrice Bergeron, whom he did best head to head when it mattered most. I personally believe there was a stretch when 87’s own health issues played a part in 19 besting him regularly. Shame the Hawks and Penguins never met in the Finals cause that something we all would of benefited from. Again, I think head to head 19 always played 87 at his best.

I do hope the Hawks figure it out now that they are in their ‘next phase’ I hope they go all the way and the owners consider leaving as well.

Start over completely, don’t half ass it

EDIT: of and fuck you too Jumbo Joe fuckin cheapshot piece of shit for all the dirty fuckin crap you did constantly to Toews because he was better for Canada and his fuckin team then your cupless ass could ever wish to be…

This really makes me hope they get Connor Bedard. Its hard to believe the same team that won 3 Stanley Cups since 2010 ended this season with one of the worst records in the NHL. It shows they desperately need to fill the voids left by Kane, Toews, Keith, and other key players that have jumped ship.

I can respect and appreciate the hockey career, but the person. Fuck that. The slimey way he squirmed out of accountability over the Kyle Beach situation makes me lose every ounce of respect I had for him. It’s a damn shame, but enough to make me not wish him any further success

As a Dallas Stars fan, I want to wish Jonathan Toews, the very best in his future endeavors. Thank you for all the great hockey. I hope they find a cure for long Covid.

not to be too over dramatic but i did just shed a few tears. i got into hockey via my dad – a lifelong hawks fan in 2010. i’ve only known teams with toews on them. he’ll be missed.

Only place I see him signing is Winnipeg and even that’s a long shot

Great hockey player, actual pile of steaming shit of a person

VERY SAD DAY! And I’m a Canucks fan!

  12. VMCColorado

Plenty of players at age 34 keep playing when they just had a 30 points season.

Fine if the Blackhawks don’t want to re-sign him but retirement seems a little premature.

Does this mean he’s starting tonight? I might pick him up on fantasy for a last ditch effort lol

It’s sad to see. But what I love is at the end of the day, regardless of what team you root for, everyone just loves hockey and hates to see a star have to leave the game for health reason. It’s something that when I think about ovi or crosby will retire, everyone can just come together and remember how awesome it was to see these players on the ice. Makes me happy.

I think this is an excellent article about Toews and his departure from the Blackhawks and his impact on the franchise and hockey in general.

For me, his defining moment was his shootout performance during the 07 game against the US at the world juniors. As someone that grew up where hockey was as much a second nature as breathing and first rounders on a world junior team was a given, that was the moment where I recognised what he was going to be.

Wishing him the best in his future endeavours

  16. Disherman

    He could easily keep playing.
    Many teams would take him.

  17. Tucker897

Dude they gotta win it tonight for him right? Right? Go out on a high?

  18. 99titan

Mr. Toews, our teams battled quite a bit in the playoffs back about 7-8 years ago. It was a pleasure to watch you play. Much respect from Nashville.

Have been expecting it for the last 18 months, but still sucks to see. The Hawks dynasty living in Chicago was the most fun I’ve had.

That being said , I am afraid that Toews is gonna get a hatty and further ruin the tank tonight
