When did they start counting this stuff? Because I’m sure Craig Ludwig might have something to say about this. He had special pads for blocking shots in the 90s. CBC did a segment on it during the 1994 playoffs.

goalies block shots. this shot blocking is just plain stupid . Red Wings, rebuilding, just lost a valuable player – Rasmussen – blast to the knee. Would have been an easy stop for Husso. Did Rasmussen "need" to prove how tough he is?? Mindless sheep leading mindless sheep.

I played goalie in rec league. The dude on the opposing team had been drafted by the Islanders, I believe, and taking his shots in goalie equipment hurt. I can't imagine taking even 1 NHL caliber players shots in the shin pads. This is the NHL record your dad wants you to have.
