Tour de France 2007 – stage 13 – time trial in Albi (54 km)
This was the first real time trial of the Tour 2007. The big favourite was Andreas Klöden, who normally would do the best time trial among the GC guys. But unfortunally he crashed, the same goes for Fabian Cancellara.
Instead it was Klöden’ Astana teammate Alexander Vinokourov who made a great comeback on this stage, with a blasting time. He shattered a young Bardley Wiggins’ final time by more than two minutes. Vinokourov was super strong, and rode himself back on GC.
Michael Rasmussen also did the best timetrial of his life. He had bad memories of his catastrophic time trial in 2005. But on this day, he defended himself very well. He even catches and passes Alejandro Valverde.
