Careful, I asked an honest question about Jalonen and was told to “get off the Jalonen train bro” after never speaking his name in my life lol.
I’m open to all options. Genuinely don’t know what the coaching market looks like so his was the first name that came to mind because of the last go-round.

I can return to being the biggest advocate for Jalonen on this sub. Just give him a damn chance.

Ok but if we might get “the next Ovi” with Michkov, do we maybe want the Caps coach

I’d prefer it if this team doesn’t become an experiment again but ig we’ll have to see. I have no idea how he would translate into the nhl over here maybe he’s the next big thing and maybe it’s another Larsen

i personally dont think jalonen is the right choice, i love jukka jalonen im a Fin
he likes older players who eats the puck and defends very very well.
also the rookies, way too many rookies who needs help, i dont think jalonen is the one who could help them in NHL yet, and the same issue is with laviolette.

Jalonen himself has said that he doesn’t think he would be able to just jump in as an NHL head coach and would prefer to be an assistant to learn the NHL game. That means you also have to find a head coach that’s willing to teach him with no ego and an understanding that he will be replacing them eventually.
That said, I would kill to have him part of our org. I saw a presentation with him years ago and he is a straight up hockey genius.

Jalonen x Pecknold coaching staff. Not sure who gets head coach between or above both of them but that would be my nearly completely uninformed choice.

I knew this shit would show up here today. Hey let’s give *another* first time coach a shot! And even better? Let’s get one who has never, ever coached in a North American league!
And the funniest part is that despite the intense Finnish homerism on this sub, they somehow ignore the fact that we already have a Finnish coach on staff in Jarkko Ruutu and he, unlike Jukka, knows a single, solitary thing about playing in North America.

I think that people also overlook the leadership and human side of coaching with Jalonen. It’s not just about tactics, he seems very intelligent and could pick up on the style of the game based on video and another coach teaching him. Coaching and leading all Finnish players who come from the same culture to coaching a diverse group of players would be an adjustment for anyone. A very large percentage of coaching, especially in hockey is setting the expectations, leading, and being consistent with accountability and messaging. However, you need to tailor your messaging to each individual personality and build trust with everyone, while being authentic and true to who you are as a person and leader. Coaching and leading in general, is really hard to do right. It would be a huge adjustment for anyone and that in itself would be why I wouldn’t go with Jalonen as a head coach. An associate or assistant coach would be awesome though.
