There were people in the 90s who weren't from Vancouver telling me after Pavel Bure scored back to back 60 goal, 100 point seasons that he was just a B+ player, nothing to see here. Overrated. If you play in Vancouver, you'll always be underrated. Connor McDavid had to basically destroy the rest of the league on an annual basis before he was accepted as the best player in the league because he plays in Alberta. The only teams that matter are on the east coast.
EP40 is amazing! What an awesome player! But the Vancouver Canucks is a mystery to me. Sometimes during games they look strong and then the defense just falls apart. Can someone explain this to me?

It's a tough year to get recognition. McDavids 60/150, Pastrnak 60goals, EK 100 points, Bruins breaking all kinds of team records. Huge seasons for Thompson, Robertson, J. Hughes… Pettersson is fantastic, and he's going to get the recognition in time, I'm sure he will even top this season.
Canadian team + non-playoff team + PAC time zone. Nothing new. Naslund/Bertuzzi and the Sedins were underrated until they put up numbers that couldn't be ignored. I do give credit to the Professional Hockey Writers' Association though because the Canucks have done well in Calder voting for Rookie of the Year so it's obvious they stay up late. Kuzmenko should be a finalist this year.
Same reason why players like Kyle Connor, Clayton Keller, Carter Verhaeghe, Dougie Hamilton, etc aren't talked about. They aren't on a team from Ontario, New York, Quebec or Alberta.

Vancouver is not the most followed hockey team in the world. Many other teams gets more attention. There is also the McDavid factor. He is sucking all the media attention from other great players. Mikko Rantanen made 55+50 points and gets just about same amount of recognition as Elias Pettersson.
