Alex Edler Bonehead Knee on Eric Staal 05/16/13 [HD]

If you thought Edler had a brain-dead season this year — coughing up the puck and playing soft for a man of his tremendous physical abilities — you will be pleased to know that he at least tried to hit somebody in this one. Unfortunately for the Carolina Hurricanes and Eric Staal, it was a ridiculously lame hit on the Canadian forward’s knee in the first period of Thursday’s 3-2 Sweden victory. Edler got a major penalty and was ejected from the game, and rightfully so.

The bonehead play certainly gives Canucks fans pause to ponder just where this guy’s career is going — given he hasn’t made a lot of progress under this coaching staff.

  1. Was not on purpose, in sweden when you are young you are not taught the same physical north american game. Thats why many young swedish players needs some years in the minors to adapt the the NHL and it's way the game is played there. Edler said, (and I believe him) that he was going in for the hit, and in the last second changed his mind. I think that if he would have wanted to knee Staal out of the game, it would have shown more obvious. Get well soon Eric!

  2. It was a split second reaction. Horton could of avoided Rome in the playoffs, Savard could of avoided Cooke, but they didn't have enough time. Staal wouldn't purposely get severely injured for a penalty. The over reaction was true, but regardless it was a dirty hit, and there is no avoiding it.

  3. The person(s) running this channel is an absolute dickhead and should be ashamed of themselves. That description is a joke, show some loyalty.

  4. it really shows how much you know about hockey…calling it a tackle…WTF is that! canada's game whooo
    brutal hit

  5. wtf u talking about shorthouse? he's never done anything wrong before, forget the mike smith incident..just a bad judgment call, long travel – into a big game…give the guy a break – he's not a dirty player.

  6. edler moved his leg to make sure it was knee on knee he is a dirty player and will pay the price

  7. he moves the leg trying to avoid it. Otherwise he would have move it the otherway and it would have been more obvious that he wanted to hurt him then. This were an accident. You would say that it was a legal hit or not on purpose if it was Staal that hit Edler. Taste your own medicine.

  8. couldn't agree more except from the avoiding part. Edler tries to avoid to hit as he changes his mind but there's no time. But yeah canadians are a big bunch of Hypocrites when it comes to hockey.

  9. no pretty obvious he moves his leg to make sure it is knee on knee and injure staal what ever it takes to win right?

  10. Lol I love how ppl are hating on Canada because they wish they were us…
And for those that want to villainize Canada for whatever strange reason, we do not compliment Canadian players when they pull dirty hits… We have a bit more class than that

  11. 1972 Summit Series Canada broke the left ankle of Kharlamov. The hit was ordered by the Canadian coach. In 2003 the Canadian ordered Draper and Niedermayer to take cheap shots at Forsberg.

John Ferguson – "I called Clarke over to the bench, looked over at Kharlamov and said, 'I think he needs a tap on the ankle.' I didn't think twice about it. It was Us versus Them. And Kharlamov was killing us. I mean, somebody had to do it."

So don't give me that BS attitude about being classy.

  12. Americans are hypocrats, always winning games by hurting the other teams best performer, you had it coming chickens.
