Well deserved for Brennan, but definitely means Blackwood is done, barring some kind of trade blockbuster with another goalie. This gives room to pull Schmid up to the NHL next season, with Brennan getting net time in the AHL

A change of scenery may be good for Blackwood though, as consistency is his main struggle. New room with a different voice could help him get out of his head a bit

  2. I really hope this means we won’t be seeing Blackwood at all during the playoffs, he obviously won’t be back next season.

Vitek and Schmid are the duo we all want, finally.

Ok hear me out i know this is crazy, but if goaltending is a major issue in the playoffs I want Fitzy to swing big. What does that mean? Juuse Saros. There is a good/decent chance Nashville is going to rebuild and may not wanna make the same mistake we did with Corey and have a great goalie ruin any chance of a high pick. Of course Nashville may not want to trade him but if they do the Devils need to be all over that.

He makes 5 for the next 2 years. Between him and Vitek we would have around 8 tied up in net. Juuse/Vitek for that combined money would be worth it. I know we would have to give up a lot. One of Daws/Schmid. A good prospect. Multiple high picks. But again if Nashville makes him available thats the guy you swing for.

Of course goaltending might not be an issue. Nashville might want to keep him. Thats the likely outcome. But if we look outside the org for a goalie. Thats the guy.

I get the Mac is gone comments but this seems like a standard ELC signing for a guy who seemed to be ready for the A after a strong junior season

Blackwood’s gone. Schmid backups Vanecek. Daws and Brennan in Utica.
