This is SUCH a WASTE..

With the New York Islanders beating the Montreal Canadiens, the Pittsburgh Penguins have officially been eliminated from the 2023 NHL playoffs for the first time since Crosby’s rookie season in 2006. A 16 year streak broken and fans should be furious about it. Many outsiders looking in may think the Penguins missing the playoffs this year would be a result of an aging core. But here’s the deal, Crosby and Malkin are both point per game players and are about to finish their FIRST complete 82 game season together in their careers. It feels like such a wasted season due to not putting the pieces around this core. I cover this in todays NHL hockey video.

*Update* The Pittsburgh Penguins announced this morning, April 14th, the firing of President of Hockey Brian Burke and General Manager Ron Hextall. The Penguins willing to fire leadership is a great first step!

  1. Ron I need to see you in my office.
Sorry we picked a former Philadelphia Flyers goalie as our gm. You were trying to screw us intentionally. Here's the door. Don't let it hit your ass on the way out. You're fired! Oh and by the way, Flyers suck!

  2. Most of the blame goes to the coach for playing the same system all year and having an embarrassing PP. Nothing change on the ice and did not play a 60 minute game once this season. The system the coach has them play is a way that they can’t play anymore because the are older and slower. They couldn’t hold a lead at all because all the coach wanted was offense and little defense

  3. Just look at Bergeron, Kreijci and Marchand in Boston as an example of what this team could have been

  4. I was pretty leery about that Hextall signing from day one. Rick Tocchet aside, it's probably best to just steer clear of any of those Flyer guys. Been what? 48 years without a Cup…2nd longest drought in the league (amongst former Cup winners)…you tell me. If they have significant Flyers stank on them, no thanks, I'll pass.

  5. Interesting when you consider that the last man to Captain a Penguins non-playoff team was Mario Lemieux. And honestly, A 58 year old Mario would have probably been our best bottom 6 point producer had he played with us this year.

  6. FIRE HEXTALL, get rid of petry, carter and granlund, maybe get rid of jarry, and try to get John Gibson if the ducks don’t want him/still suck ass next year

  7. You love to see it. Maybe they’ll finally actually rebuild instead of waste years for a first round loss

  8. Feels strange but it's a new era and new generation making waves in the league. It's good for the sport overall that we get "new" teams in the playoffs.

  9. That stat about the bottom 6 is the biggest thing that a lot of people are not realizing.

  10. I was 15 the last time they missed the playoffs 😭😭… Hextall has got to go, what a lame tenure he's had

  11. They would have gotten crushed in the first round. I will just keep hoping Zucker is still a Penguin next year

  12. No worries… we have already made the team better! Addition by subtraction the team has relieved Burke, Hextall, and Pryor as of a couple hrs ago. Interested to see who they get to fill these positions. I hope they fill them prior to the draft, but need to be patient and find the right fit.

  13. The wings had 26 years of playoffs that ended in 2017. Welcome to our world Pens fans. It'll be a long road back after your core retires.

  14. Core is too old to build around and even though they played a full 82 all 3 are injury prone. My guess is the new corporate owners will blow it up and it will be time for a rebuild. Father Time is undefeated. Just like Marleau and company in San Jose, Getzlaf and company in Anaheim, and more recently, Kane and Toews in Chicago, all good things come to an end. Pens fans should count their blessings, 3 cups in 16 years and every year the Pens made the playoffs, fans and players alike knew they had a chance at a run. Thanks for the memories.

  15. It wasn't a complete waste. I want to thank Ron Hextall for trading Mike Matheson and a draft pick to Montreal, in exchange for Jeff Petry and Ryan Poehling. Thanks to Ron Hextall's work, the future looks bright in Montreal!
