How Jake Oettinger’s SUPERHUMAN Performance Wasn’t Enough for the Dallas Stars to Win Game One

The Dallas Stars began their first round playoff series with the Minnesota Wild with a dramatic 2OT thriller. The Stars fell short of the win, but there are still several reasons to be optimistic about this team and their chances to win the series. Jason Robertson, Roope Hintz, Miro Heiskanen and Jake Oettinger were all excellent. We also discuss Joe Pavelski and his current health status after a scary hit from a Wild defenseman.

  1. Clean hit. Any retaliation and you'll deal with Reavo and Foligno. More guys will get hurt

  2. I thought the hit was late (penalty) but was not malicious head hit and the refs got it right. Huge fan of Joe P and they make the big bucks to put their 'life' on the line their 'livelihood' too. Illegal hit was a penalty cuz it was late. refs got it right. The crosscheck was marginal and good no call.

  3. max domi got a penalty for that bs fight. We should have been on the PP Max Domi was trying to help but ended up hurting the team. SMH

  4. Calling our Minnesota Hockey fans and saying they don’t know the sport? You’re hilarious! Read the rule book, the hit by Dumba by definition was not dirty, it’s sucks Pav hit his head on the ice and you never want to see that, but stop claiming it was the dirtiest hit ever. THEY REVIEWED IT AND DETERMINED IT WASN’T MAJOR… You want to see dirty cheap shots, watch Suter constantly cross check the best player on either team right in front of the refs with no call!

  5. So in your rant you said that on ice officials that have to make a call in a split second at full speed got the call right but the off ice officials that look at multiple angles of the play got the call wrong? Almost every single time a player is injured from a hit, the refs are going to call a major because they can then review it to see what exactly happened. After reviewing the hit and looking at multiple angles, the off ice officials determined that the contact wasn't with the head, Dumba didn't leave his feet and the hit happened within the 0.6 second window after Pavelski got rid of the puck. Does it suck that the outcome was Pavelski hitting his head on the ice? Of course, but just because it happened it doesn't make the hit dirty. Also turning this into an argument of "if you think this hit was clean you don't care about the long term affects of concussions or player safety" is such a disingenuous argument and is honestly kind of gross.

  6. One of the most biased, unknowledgeable people I’ve ever listened to. Maybe stick to something you have general knowledge about 😂😂😂

  7. As a MN fan I hope Joe is OK first and foremost. The hit was hard and Joe didn't expect it, but it wasn't a major, my God have you ever played hockey, the game is speed and unfortunate things happen at times look at Dumba he went full back first into boards and two players could have been hurt. How about Suters cheap cross-check on 97. I love the intensity from both teams, but if Dallas decides to take an immature approach and get away from what made them successful this year they will be sitting at home in 2 weeks. So I urge both teams to play clean nobody wants to see injuries. Prayers for Joe.

  8. Mn fans don't argue with these people about hockey. The only time they see ice is when they go to the freezer. It was a clean hit, unfortunate outcome.

  9. True it was a lucky bounce to hartman to win. But thatis how most goals happen in every playoff game. A guy who finds his way to a spot and a puck that just squirts to him

  10. His feet leave the ground well after contact is made with pavelski… if he left his feet to initiate the hit then that rule would apply. Shoulder to shoulder… hits him under a second after the puck leaves his stick (watch at full speed) you cant adjust that quickly and stop the hit.

I want to be clear it is crazy unfortunate that Pavs got hurt. If joe gets up and doesn't hit his head it's not a talking point. Pavelski ISN'T soft. **

As for aiming for the head… dumba never even touched his head with his body a stick may have came up and caught Pavs but that isnt what youre complaining about

Lastly, at that point, where does dumba go to avoid making contact with Pavelski? both skaters are heading to the sam spot agaisnt the back boards. Does Dumba jump out of the way?

  11. The hit was a little late, he never left the ice and it was shoulder to shoulder his head did hit the ice hard. He (dumba) should have not waited to make the hit. Should have been a 2 minute Interference call. Very unfortunate play overall and I hate seeing plays like this but it’s playoff hockey.

  12. As a Stars fan we can’t cry about the hit. It was a shoulder on shoulder hit. It’s a fast and hard hitting playoff game. Playoffs have always been played that way. Let’s stop belly aching and play tough! We had our chances to win the game.

  13. Pavelski hit was clean and was on him. He let up at the wrong place. Dumba's 2 minute penalty was against Domi. Only reason the 5 minute penalty was called was so the play can be reviewed. Also it's going to be a long series for the Stars they will continue to get checked and hit, and Suter is the weak link on the team he could cost the stars a game or two if he's on the ice for 30+ minutes

  14. With all due respect, you are an extremely emotional stars fan about that hit. Easy to say the puck is far gone on a frame by frame slow mo breakdown. The puck was on his stick a half second before contact and it was shoulder to shoulder. He also didn’t “leave his feet” in a launching motion. The force of the hit also knocked him off his feet. Borderline? Maybe, but cheap and dirty, much like Suter was last not? I don’t think that’s the case

  15. Dane, we much be watching different hits, or your desire to make it something is changing your perception completely. Dumba's feet don't leave the ice until after the contact as he went flying into the boards. I've watched the replay over multiple times, he had one skate in contact with the ice until after the hit. Also the "the puck was no where close" Sorry, it bounced off the net and was very close to where the 2 made contact. The hit was a fraction late and it was an intentionally hard hit. We could replay this game and find numerous examples of players making hard hits, often with the hope of making the other guy hurt.. Most of the time the other player sees it coming and deflects or absorbs the blow. The problem here was that Pavelski wasn't expecting this hard hit. It seemed that he was trying to put the puck around the boards but he flubbed that attempt, why he wasn't aware of Dumba in his path is unsure. I think the refs (or Toronto) got it right that the hit was technically within bounds of the rules. Should the rules be changed to help prevent plays such as this? I think probably so. To try to alter reality through your monologue doesn't feel helpful to me.
